Can't watch DVD on TV - can't get to channel.

I have my Insignia TV set up with our cable box and also with our DVD player. Originally, the DVD player played on "Aux 2" on our old TV. When I try to change the channel on the TV the cable box channels change, when I try to change ONLY the Insignia, I get the same result. If I manually change the channel on the Insignia , I get either "Channel 3" for our cable, or another channel (Channel 8 perhaps?) and it toggles between the two. I can't get to the "Aux 2" channel.  What do you suggest?

Hello caircair,

Welcome to Community@ Insignia™!

How is the DVD player connected to the TV? If it is connected using a multicolor cable(Yellow/White/Red) instead of a channel, you will need to change the TV input to the A/V input selection, after the DVD player has been turned on and is sending signal.

Thanks. I'm a total tech failure - how do I do that?

Hello caircair,

Thank you for responding!

If you have the Remote that came with the TV originally, it should have a A/V, Video, Input, or Source button. If not on the TV there should be a button labeled Input or Source.

Re: Can't watch DVD on TV - for the severely technologically challenged!

hi caircair,

i'm right there with you.   technology is NOT my strong suit.   i had to connect my new insignia tv to my ancient dvd/vcr by pulling out my old yellow/white and red cable.   my new insignia tv is high def, but my dvd/vcr player is from the early 90's.

the KEY to what jon said is that the dvd/vcr has to be POWERED ON so the tv KNOWS it is there.   otherwise, the av option on the tv will not be LIT UP, or HIGHLIGHTED, as an option on the "available components" list.

so, take your yellow, white and red cord and plug it into the back of the dvd/vcr unit in the VIDEO OUT section.

plug the other ends into the back of your new tv in the A/V IN line of holes.   the red one goes in the top red hole, not the lower red hole.   the white goes in the top white hole, not the lower white hole.   the YELLOW PLUG goes in the GREEN HOLE at the bottom.

VOILA'!!!   you are now able to see your movie playing in your dvd player.   you won't have to do anything else.   it will just be playing and you will be able to hear it also.

REMEMBER, have your dvd player on the entire time before you ever begin this process so you can choose your "source" on your new tv.   you want to choose "component/av".   that is the very first step.

peace,

matt

Hi, technologybozo:  I have to thank you for your info of 9/12/2016 on how to connect a dvd player to roku tv.  I was totally lost with the info prior to your post.  Was ready to return the t.v., but I made the connection in just a few minutes with your help.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.  You are not a bozo.  But I am the technologybimbo!  Trying to learn.

Re: Can't watch DVD on TV - for the severely technologically challenged!

hi rokugirl,

you are sooo welcome.   i know the string of swear words that come out of my mouth could make a sailor blush when i am tackling anything electronic.   so i figured when i saw this discussion, i would explain it in intricate detail like i need to hear it so that even a three year old can do it.   i cannot tell you how many times some member of my herd, prior to reaching the age of seven over these last thirty years, have begun a statement like this, "are you kidding me pops?   you don't know how to do even that???"

enjoy your new insignia.   mine is awesome!
