Just found out the remote for the dish vip 722k is a learning remote. I've programmed it to control the insignia player and it works fine. Take a look at your dish remote and look for the ir window on the top left side of the remote. If it has this then it should be a learning remote.

here is the shortcut if you don't want to read a bunch:
1. press and hold vcr button on dish remote for a few seconds until all mode lights come on. Should be red blinking now.
2. press recall button
3. press record button for a few seconds until the vcr button is solid red
4. press button on dish remote to program, play for example
5. point insignia remote to the top left side of the dish remote (where the ir window is) and press the play button
6. the dish remote will blink once to indicate it learned the command, or will blink multiple times if it failed
7. repeat for all other buttons you need
8. press the any other mode button (tv, aux, sat) when you are done.
