Error with NS-WBRDVD2 firmware rollback from February 2011 update

Hi - After installing the February update, I am no longer able to play all of my DVDs and Blu Ray discs. I have reset the factory settings and attempted to restore the August 2010 firmware downloaded from the website, and I get the following error when powering on the player with the USB drive with firmware ISO connected:

Please remove the update device from slot.

or Please select OK to continue.

Update Result: Failed, Due to Internal Error (12000)

OK

A Software Update is about to finish.

Please do not power off your player until it's finished.

Can you please provide a link to a working firmware update prior to the Feburary 2011 release.

Thanks!

Re: Error with NS-WBRDVD2 firmware rollback from February 2011 update

Hello resrvordog,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

I consulted our engineers about this issue and received the following in reply:

Error 12000: Either the update .iso image is corrupted, or there was an internal file system error on the USB memory stick.

If you are trying to do an online update, I would recommend trying to download the *.iso file to a USB flash drive and try again. If this does not resolve the issue then it may be that the unit is defective.

It was also suggested that power-cycling the player--e.g., turning it off and unplugging for several minutes--may resolve the problem.  When downloading to the USB flash drive, ensure that it is formatted FAT32 and that there are no other files but the .iso present.  Let us know your results!

John

Re: Error with NS-WBRDVD2 firmware rollback from February 2011 update

Thanks John -

I followed those explicit instructions and no longer get the update error (I believe the issue was the USB Drive formatting).

Which leads me to my next question. How can I get the last working firmware version? Mine clearly shipped with something later than August 2010, as I'm still unable to play all the DVDs and Blu Rays I was able to play previously. And I updated online in December 2010 with no issue, so that update should work fine, too.

I appreciate your help in restoring my WBRDVD2 to its former glory.

John

Re: Error with NS-WBRDVD2 firmware rollback from February 2011 update

To clarify - the Augustt 2010 firware does allow me to play all my Blu Ray and DVD titles, but I would still prefer to have the latest fully functional firmware on the player if possible.

Thanks!

John
