Help with setting up blu ray player with mac wirelessly

Can someone please give me step by step instructions on setting up my blu ray player with mac wirelessly. I have set a computer to computer wireless network set up on my imac. we use our laptop on this network and it works fine. When I search for networks on the blu ray. It shows up this network but does not connect. The signal strength shown is good ( all four bars). Am I missing any steps. I am a non technical person, so a step by step approach would be really appreciated.

Re: Help with setting up blu ray player with mac wirelessly

Well I spent a few hours fussing with this... very frustrated and  was ready to take it back to Best Buy but after reading many, many posts I got mine to work..... so I hope this help others...I can't guarantee it will work for you...

My set up:  Airport Extreme Wireless Router using WPA/WPA2 Personal Encryption (i.e., password protected).

If you are using this type of set up, you need to get the MAC address from the BluRay player, which is found on the BluRay player's Settings > Network menu.  Write it down (it's usually some like "00:10:C6:CB:83:0E")

You will need to add this MAC address to your router's list of wireless clients-- in my case, you add them using Airport Utility application, select Airport then Access menus...and then add the device and put in it's MAC Address.

Then, go to the BluRay player and go to Settings> Network > WIRED and turn OFF the IP MODE. This should be done first.

Save that setting then go to WIRELESS > Network List  and you should see your network appear....select it and choose EDIT > you'll need to set the Encryption to WPA PSK and the name of your network should appear automatically, but you'll need to add the password.  Once the password is entered. Select OK and see if you can connect at that point.

As I said, the key for me was turning the IP Mode to OFF in the WIRED settings first, then going about setting up the WIRELESS settings.

Now you've probably been doing a lot of settings, so you probably should reset the player to it's default settings which is in the SETTINGS > SYSTEM menu.

So to sum up:

GET MAC ADDRESS OF BLU-RAY

ALLOW IT ACCESS TO YOUR NETWORK VIA YOUR ROUTER'S APPLICATION SOFTWARE

RESET TO DEFAULT SETTINGS

WIRED SETTINGS - IP MODE TO OFF

WIRELESS SETTINGS - SELECT NETWORK, ENTER PASSWORD

SAVE

SHUT OFF THE BLU-RAY

TURN IT ON

and at that point it asked if I wanted to update the firmware, etc.... I let it update, and it now works as it should....

but, I'm not a happy camper with all the frustration, etc.... it's Xmas, after all!

Good luck everyone....

I don't know if the OP will get it to work, since he's not using a router, he's got a peer to peer network going...I don't think that'll work.
