How do I get rid of the black bars while watching a blu-ray disc on my NS-WBRDVD?

I know some people like to watch their movies with the bars but I hate it.

Kinda defeated the purpose of me buying a 50" plasma if the movie is being displayed at half of its size.

Any way of making it fit the screen w/out using the zoom button on the TV? In case  you need it, I  have an Insignia NS-P502Q-10A.

Hope you guys can help me out. Seems like I'm enjoying watching things from my USB more than I am from Blu-Ray due to this issue.

Hello aznhero913,

Unfortunately, using your TV zoom control is the best option.  While you may adjust many output settings on your Blu-ray player, there isn't a means to have it send a signal to the TV that will automatically fill your TV's screen.  There is more detailed explanation of this in the owner's manual under "Selecting the TV aspect ratio."

I think it also depends on the movie, and how it came. Some movies will always have the letterbox bars as part of the picture, because they were filmed on a different aspect ratio than the tv (doesn't matter if it's widescreen or not). 2001: a space odyssey is an example. It was filmed in the 60's for cinema screens which are much wider than a standard tv, and even a new widescreen tv. There is no way to watch the entire picture without having black bars. You can zoom in, but that might sacrifice things on the edges. A lot of movies are formatted like this (example was on dvds that were either widescreen or fullscreen). you can either have the entire picture with black bars, or a portion of the picture but bigger on a horizontal basis.
