Insignia NS-WBRDVD player won't play -- not able to get to anything except Insignia logo

My Insignia WBRDVD player worked fine one day.  Then the next, it wouldn't play anything.  In fact, the only thing I see when I put in a DVD is about a 30 second cycle of the blue Insignia logo screen, then a blank black screen, then a screen that says No time information available.  I cannot get to settings.  I tried a firmware update by putting in a USB drive, but nothing happens.  If I put in a DVD or a blu ray, I hear a lot of rattles and then the nessage on the front reads welcome.

I took this back to the store where I puchased it because I had also purchased a protection plan.  The tech there set it up and it worked great.  I brought it home put in a DVD and after a few stops and starts, I was able to play one DVD.  After that, it quit again.  I took it back again today and again the tech (a different one) got it to work.  It took him a while, but he said it wasn't broken.  I brought it home again and tried everything I could think of, but nothing happens.

I can't get to any settings or update screens.  I don't know what to do.  I replaced the HDMI cable, and nothing.  Any suggestions?

Hello HelenJ,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

I have some questions for you:

  • Are you playing store-purchased titles or recorded disks?
  • Are the disks you're attempting to play DVDs or Blu-rays?
  • Did you provide the disk that Geek Squad used to test your player?
  • Does the problem occur for ever title? Which titles are affected?

Re: Insignia NS-WBRDVD player won't play -- not able to get to anything except Insignia logo

John,

  • Are you playing store-purchased titles or recorded disks?

The disks I was using were all store bought.

  • Are the disks you're attempting to play DVDs or Blu-rays?

They were both Blu-ray and DVDs.  I tried multiple DVDs, one Blu-ray.

  • Did you provide the disk that Geek Squad used to test your player?

They provided the disk.  I had not brought one with me.

  • Does the problem occur for ever title? Which titles are affected?

For me, it was everything I tried.  Nothing played, and I could not get into setup or connect to Pandora or Netflix.

New information:  today, I took the player back to BestBuy with some of my disks.  They set it up again and it would not play.  The young man I saw said it sounded like the drive was going out and perhaps it was a hit and miss thing.  He authorized a replacement player for me and I walked out with a new one.  I am still puzzled why he could get a setup screen even today and all I ever got was the Insignia logo and a black screen.

However, my problem is resolved because I can now watch DVDs again.
