Hi John and thanks.
It's a very bad news for me because my other blu ray player is the Insignia NS-BDLIVE01. Means to say I'll be waiting for the inevitable for my other blu ray player. What a waste of money buying this brand, I should have bought a unit with a brand name even if its little bit costly.
What if in the near future these models are recalled and my units are all unserviceable can I still return it to Best Buy or Ignignia for repairs or replacements eventhough I do not have the receipts anymore?
I would also like to know if there is already a firmware update for the NS-BDLIVE01 model.
Again, thank you.

Hello Boyl,
You should not assume that your other BR player will stop working, based on other consumer's bad experience, we sold lots of these devices and had no mayor issues with them. About the one you are having problems with, my first advice will be to use a lens cleaner, since 99% of the time it's dirty lens or disks what prevents the player to read them. If after running the cleaner a couple of times the issue persists, then you may want to have a technician assist you further on this.
Thank you,
Gonza

I just successfully installed the new firmware (6/2009) and after that, NOTHING plays on this player No DVDs. No Blu-Rays. Nothing.. I called tech support, and they were useless. Told me to return to the store. I can imagine where THAT conversation is going to go.
There is something seriously wrong if your own firmware disc destroys the player and renders it useless. No one in tech support has any ideas on how to remedy this, yet I read all over the web that it happens to people all the time.
I had my doubts about Insignia.....turns out I was right to be skeptical. Penny wise, pound foolish - that's what this purchase was.

belladevil, I had the SAME exact thing happen when I updated an ns-bdlive01! I updated the firmware correctly and it asked me to take out disc and press button to restart. After the restart all that comes on is "POW ON." This has only happened to 1 unit out of 20. Theres a bestbuy employee that said that they get about 4 out of 10 of these units back and that they are extremely unreliable.
They even switched manufacturers from Samsung to Desay maybe in an effort to stop bad units. Samsung made NS-2BRDVD, Desay made NS-BDLIVE01. The internal design of the units are EXACTLY the same. The firmware is also exactly the same bit by bit. The fact is that 2brdvd and bdlive01 end up dying with a POW ON error msg which is most likely caused by a design flaw, an incorrect resistor/capacitor is being used and eventually causes this to happen. Yes, I have 20 bd-live01 units (tested working) that I gotten thru ebay. No doubt the failure rate on these are high.

hi gonza!
i think i'm not sold out to your advice of using a disc cleaner and if this will not fix the problem see a technician because its an additional cost to a dead unit.
Actually, i did manually clean the laser eye of my ns-2brdvd using isopropyl alcohol but still it doesn't work. i didn't buy a disc cleaner because i have read that it will scratch the laser eye and besides as i have said it's an additional cost with no guarantee that it fix the problem. seeing a technician to have it fix is also more costly. i think it's better to buy a branded new blu ray player rather than spend another dollar to have my problematic ns-2brdvd fix.
i have updated the firmware of my ns-2brdvd using the insignia blu ray firmware update pkg_dvd_1-4-089_rc 6/2009 furnished by insignia/best buy. i updated my unit because it will not play new blu ray disc. after the update i was able to play only three 3) blu ray disc and it doesn't play even my old blu ray disc anymore. belladevil and nes have experienced the same problem with their insignia blu ray player after the have updated the firmware using the same firmware update disc. what if the firmware update disc supplied to us by insignia/best buy is the cause of our units problem? insignia/best buy should be held responsible because of their action and should replaced our unit. do you agree with my point. its analogous to a doctor who prescribed a wrong medicine to a patient and the patient died, the doctor is held responsible for his action.
oh, its just my opinion.
