I will try to keep this simple. I have read other posts and they seem to center around the Insignia giving a disk error or failing to read the disk which is not the case here:
I have a Sony camcorder and made a HD recording. I have loaded the recording onto my home computer using the PMB software provided by Sony. This same software has burned a disk that has the folders similar to what I have seen in other posts:
BDMV
BACKUP
CLIPINF
PLAYLIST
STREAM
In the STREAM folder is a .m2ts file which my computer says is a AVCHD file type. I have no trouble watching this file on my computer. Placing the disk in the Insignia, it reads the disk just fine and displays the BDMV folder. I can navigate to the subfolders, no problem. I can get to the Media Launcher menu which if I am reading the instructions correctly can only be done if a valid media type is in the player. If I go to the STREAM subfolder, Insignia does not display the files there. Is the .m2ts a valid file type for the NS-2BRDVD? How do I get to and launch this file?
The thrust of the other posts seems to be about adding new subfolders like CERTIFICATE etc. I have done some of that and the folders appear when I put the disk in the Insignia. I just want to be sure I am on the right track with this file type. Any help would be appreciated.

and while I am at it, what is the most recent firmware version for this player and how do I see what version I currently have? I did update it once right after purchase.

Hello BobBarry,
Unfortunately, the NS-2BRDVD does not support the .M2TS file extension as that format is actually a proprietary modification of the AVCHD by Sony and our players are not compatible with that type of file. Basically, what is happening is the authoring portion of the disc is correct and working but the underlying file type its self cannot be played on the player. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I did look but could not find, what file types or standards work with this DVD player? I will attempt to convert the file to one compatible with the NS-2BRDVD while maintaining the highest definition. Any recommendation you have would be appreciated.

Yes, is there a published file structure for the Insignia Blu-Ray players such that I can author an AVCHD disc that will play?
Is it simply a matter of converting the .m2ts file to .mts ?

Hello TomM,
I would suggest converting to MPEG-2, this should allow you audio/video playback, as this is a supported playback format for burned DVDs on this player.

Hi Zac,
While that *is* an option... converting to MPEG2 defeats the purpose of an AVCHD video file, and also eliminates the original point of purchasing an Insignia player, as it was marketed as much more versatile than other Blu-Ray players. Perhaps this is not the reality of the machine's capabilities?
