I have HD home footage that I burned onto DVD's with Sony's DVDirect recorder. It was recorded in AVCHD format. It just spits out the disks.
I also archived some dvd's I had on DVD-R's and they give a disc error message.
I have had one recorded disc play and it was a JPEG disk.
What do I have to do to get my discs to play?
I have not done the firmware update yet due to it not liking the cd's I put in the drive.
I have tried resetting to factory defaults.

Hello vicini,
Welcome to Community@Insignia™!
It sounds like your DVDirect discs should work, based on my research. I have found that DVDs burned at a lower speed are more reliable for playback, so you may wish to try re-burning the discs at a lower rate (4x works very well for me). If that doesn't resolve the issue, you may need to contact Sony for assistance troubleshooting. You can contact Sony at 1-239-768-7547.
While your player will play DVD+/-R and RW discs, they have to be in DVD video format. If your burned discs are in the proper format but will not play, I would recommend re-burning at a lower speed as I mentioned above. Your player will recognize music CD, mp3/wma and jpeg discs natively.
I hope this helps. If you have additional concerns, please let us know.
Regards,
John

DVD's made using Sony's DVDirect recorder are in AVCHD format
Your DVD needs to be in Blu-ray format. It needs a CERTIFICATE folder with a BACKUP folder in it and in the BDMV folder you need to add AUXDATA, BDJC, JAR, and META folders. These folders are empty. You must burn the DVD in UDF 2.5 format.
You can also:
Use multiavchd (http://www.multiavchd.deanbg.com) to create a Blu-ray format of your AVCHD.
Use Imgburn (http://www.imgburn.com/) to burn to DVD-R or DVD+R the BDMV and the CERTIFICATE folders. Be sure to set UDF to 2.5 in Imgburn before burning.
I would recommend you use a DVD+RW to test this on before you burn to DVD+/- R.

It should be a BDJO folder and not a BDJC.
Use a DVD-RW to test. I have problems with some DVD+rw
