NS-BRDVD won't play new Blu-Ray movies/Firmware development

[ Edited ]
I just bought Inglourious Basterds on Blu-Ray.  Popped it in my NS-BRDVD.  Got to main menu, clicked play, saw the FBI warning and such and now I'm staring at a spinning disc...have been for 10 minutes.  Guess that means this player won't be playing anything released from this point forward.  I called tech support.  They have no idea.  They stated there may be a firmware update.  I have the latest one installed.  My question is, this is listed as a discontinued item.  Are they even going to develop firmware for this product anymore?  If not, what a piece of crap.  This is less than a year old and already can't play the current crop of Blu-Ray movies.

Thanks for the info, but this doesn't help.  I already tried that solution.  I can get to the disc menu and select chapters and such.  The movie just never plays after the main menu.

Re: NS-BRDVD won't play new Blu-Ray movies/Firmware development

Have you verified that the disc itself isn't bad? I recently had a situation where a player, not an insignia, wouldn't play a disc , it turned out the problem was the disc itself, I exchanged it and it worked fine, this was the new star trek disc. It wouldn't play on a Samsung or an lg, swapped disc and it was fine. So its a good and easy place to start, you should be able to exchange the disc, or even if you know someone else with a blu ray player, have them test the disc

Disc plays fine on a Pioneer Blu-Ray player.  Guess it is the Insignia unit itself.  Too bad their tech support is non-existent.  I have my doubts they will ever release a firmware update for this unit.  Off to the store to buy a new player.  Definitely won't be an Insignia.

It is the 18th, and there is an update available. I haven't installed it yet, but maybe it will solve your problems.

Where do you see an update?  I still only show the E5E25UD1108FA1 firmware on the support page.  I also talked to Insignia support again.  They told me they would not develop anymore firmware for this product since it is discontinued.  To make matters worse, my warranty expired three days ago and Best Buy won't exchange this unit now.  Lovely.

Sorry, I havent used in a little while, Ive been busy. It looks like the update was pushed out on the 10th.

The biggest problem with the bluray format is is the device manufacturers. They all want to sell new players so they drop all of their current models and force everyone to buy new ones. I had a Sumsung player that went sour after an update 8 month ago, and there hasn't been another update since, and that was a $400 player last January. The format will never catch on if they keep this up.

I finally gave up on the Samsung and bought the NS-BRDVD3 for $100 as a netflix streamer that might actually play some bluray discs. This time I got the $30 4 year BestBuy replacement warranty, just in case this one craps out on me.

Re: NS-BRDVD won't play new Blu-Ray movies/Firmware development

tkosma,

I currently have the same problem with the NS-BRDVD. I purchased about 6 to 8 months ago. I bought Babylon AD about a month ago and i came across the problem it would load up after i clicked "play" and it would end me back up at the main menu. And then recently I bought the new Night of the museum movie. and it wouldn't even make it to the main menu it would just go through the FBI warning. and show the disc rotate at the bottom center of the screen for about 5 minutes.

My question is Insignia, If im going to BUY a 200 dollar blu-ray player and help pay one of yalls im sure nice looking paychecks. And then yall are going to discontinue the product. Why then would Insignia decide to stop producing firmware for that product? I would like to think Insignia would help us keep our "out-of-date" blu-ray players running and their customers HAPPY.. Im at this moment completely 180 of that feeling "Happy" with Insignia, and believe me when i tell you IF Insignia decided NOT to create anymore firmware for this product then i will be happy to buy from a different company. Because this is unacceptable. How the Blu-Ray industry will stay afloat is beyond me at this troubling time. Thank you.
