Re: network connectivity issues NS-BRDVD3

For what is worth, I switched from Comcast to Verizon FIOS, and I'm now using an Actiontec router instead of the WRT54G I had before. My player has not lost Ethernet connection ever since.

There definitely is a problem with the ethernet port (probably firmware initialization) on the DVD player when connected to some routers.

As I suggested before, adding a cheap ethernet switch can solve the problem for ~$10... not an excuse for Insignia to ignore the issue, but if you otherwise like the player is a decent workaround

Re: NS-BRDVD3 losing WIRED network connection

I have been having the same problems with my player.  Every time I shut it off, the network would be lost when the unit is powered back up.

I tried replacing the Cat5, setting static IP on both router and the ns-brdvd3 ...no help  The only way to get the network back would be to unplug the cat5, wait for 30 seconds and plug it back in.  I did notice the network activity lights on the back of the player were dark  until the network cable was removed and plugged back in.

I changed my 2Wire router from Auto Detect the network speed on the router port the  Blu-Ray was plugged to fixed 100mbs full duplex.  This appears to have fixed the problem.  I have not had a problem since this change was made.  Hope this helps!

Re: NS-BRDVD3 losing WIRED network connection

it seems that this Blue Ray has issues with Switches works fine with a hub.  because they have issued a few firmware releases since my purchase last year it would seem this could be a Hardware issue and I belive it should be recalled.   I should have taken mine back when it was new.

Re: NS-BRDVD3 losing WIRED network connection

It appears the problem is the network card inside the blu-ray has poor speed negotiation abilities.  If you plug directly into the router, you can correct the problem by telling the router to fix the speed of the port to 100mbs.  A switch normally does not have the capabilities to fix a ports speed and thus I have no solution for that unless you can use a switch that only has one port speed.  Hopefully Insignia can correct this problem in a firmware update; if not people experiencing this issue will be limited with their options.
