I have a NS-WBRDVD that we purchased Dec 09 for the WiFi streaming of Netflix. After install, I performed a firmware update via WiFi to add Netflix. System worked beautifully until I updated firmware again in Sep 10 (added CinemaNow and Pandora; 20100707). Now, I cannot get audio via my AV receiver when using NetFlix or CinemaNow (or MP3). I haven't tried Pandora because I don't have an account. The newest update, 20101222 did not help.
System: Samsung 58" plasma TV, Samsung HT-AS720ST surround sound system (AV-R720 receiver), and the NS-WBRDVD.
Connection: HDMI from NS-WBRDVD to receiver (HDMI IN 1 (DVD)) and HDMI from receiver to TV (HDMI OUT). I also have a Cox Motorola cable DVR box connected to HDMI IN 2 (SAT).
Symptoms: I get audio when watching a DVD or BR, or cable. When streaming NetFlix or CinemaNow, I don't have audio. If I connect the NS-WBRVD directly to the TV (HDMI or composite (yellow video, red/white audio), I have audio.
Troubleshooting: I spent an hour today with Insignia tech support - "problem is not NS-WBRDVD." I then spent an hour with Samsung tech support - Insignia is compressing the streaming audio. Insignia needs to tell you how to set it to "re-encode" (which is not an option on the WBRDVD, so it confused Samsung Tech Support). I tried resetting factory defaults and disconnecting NetFlix, CinemaNow, and Pandora on WBRDVD. No joy. I reset my receiver. No joy. Swapping HDMI cables or ports on the receiver does not help. I also downloaded the firmware update to a USB flash drive and updated the WBRDVD. Does not make a difference.
Summary: Based on what I understand from Insignia and Samsung tech support, the NS-WBRDVD is compressing the audio signal for streaming sources (and MP3) sent via HDMI and the AV-R720 receiver cannot process it. The TV can handle the audio signal without issue.
Desire: I am frustrated because this setup used to work. Insignia says they cannot recreate the effect in their labs, but many others seem to have similar problems. Insignia needs to talk with Samsung to figure out a solution. Meanwhile, I'd like someone to send me copy of NS-WBRDVD firmware from Dec 09 so I can reload it onto my player.
Thank you for any help.

i have my audio setting on the wbrdvd set to bitstream, granted i use a toslink cable, if that doesntr work try bistream mixed

Update: I tried every combination of Audio settings: PCM downsampling @ 48, 96 kHz and off; PCM, Bitstream HD, Bitstream Legacy, and Bitstream Mixed. No joy. I am convinced that the recent firmware updates have made my BR player incompatible with my receiver via HDMI.
I just received the 20100131_NSWBRDVD_BBY_B052_6904_27 firmware update from lotsuguy (thank you very much). I downloaded it to a USB Flash drive and installed it on the NS-WBRDVD. Success! I now have audio via HDMI while streaming NetFlix. And, I don't have the annoying CinemaNow as a feature.
Only annoyance is that it says a Firmware Update is available. I don't foresee me updating again (unless my player stops working).
I have the old firmware for anyone who needs it. I wish Insignia would start a Firmware Archive. Tech Support (Tina?) told me that updates are mostly Beta. Wish they wouldn't push Beta updates as Mandatory/Required! Recommend anyone who wants to update ensure they have the old Firmware saved in case of a problem!!!!
Cheers and good luck!

can you get me that firmware as well? Im having a problem with my netflix not loading. I've had netflix remove the device and then tried to re-active but it gets stuck at the loading netflix screen. I've tried to look for automatic download of firmware but it says its already has the latest one. I can send you my email when your ready. thanks
