Based on the symptoms this error will be most likely due to hardware issues. My advise will be to take this device back to the place of purchase along with the receipt so a technician can assist you further on this matter.

I had the same issue, but when I removed my USB storage from the front-side USB port on the player, power cycled it, and then tried again, the update was successful.
