I'm receiving this same message on my Redbox DVDs. I've noticed this seems to have been after all the firmware updates had stopped. Seems that it was fairly active in updating when I first purchased and now it has gone months without anything. Now not all DVDs refuse to play. Some I can open & close the tray often enough that it will start to read. Once that happens, then I'm fine.
I hope this isn't how Insignia is about all hi-tech products. If so, I'll not purchase another.

Same here. After the firmware update, some DVDs play and some i have to open and close the tray as well. Others I have to turn the player off and back on a few times to play.
It was working fine until I went away for a few weeks and came back. The first few times I played a DVD, it was not reading the disc. I had to open and close and go through the routine until it read it.
I'm not a DVD player expert, but it appears as though these players are very ensitve to dust or other particles and opening a closing somehow helps to clean the particles out.
I haven't had a "no Disc" issue since installing the firmaware and abusing the open/close mechanism. As far as Insignia, I won't spend anoher dime on them!
