NS-WBRDVD2 - Firmware update killed the audio

I had just been watching a show on Netflix without issue.  I decided to the firmware update afterwards, and now have no audio on Netflix, or when watching a DVD.  I am connected to the TV with an HDMI cable.  I have verified that I am getting sound out of the TV, just not through the playe.

Please help!!!

Hello Mcukrow,

I would suggest rolling back the firmware on your player. This can be done by following these steps:

  1. Insert an empty flash drive into the USB port on your computer.
  2. Download the previous firmware for the NS-WBRDVD2 which can be located here.
  3. Copy the file to your flash drive, then remove the drive from the computer.
  4. Eject any disc that is in the player, then turn the unit off.
  5. Insert the flash drive in the USB port on the player.
  6. Turn the player on and wait, within a minute or two a dialogue box will appear.
  7. Select "Ok" and allow the update to install.
  8. Once the update is complete you will be prompted to remove the flash drive, this will restart the unit.
  9. Once the player turns off, unplug the power and let it set for 30 minutes.
  10. Plug the player back in, turn it on, and attempt to use the player.

If this resolves the sound issue then attempt to update to the current firmware version again. Simply select "Settings" > "System" > "Update Via Network". Again after the update completes, turn off and unplug the player for 30 minutes. Then plug it back in and see if this has resolved your issue. If you are still experiencing the same issue, please return the player to the place of purchase along with the receipt as the NS-WBRDVD2 has a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase.

Re: NS-WBRDVD2 - Firmware update killed the audio

hi Zac/Insignia,

I have exactly the same problem except that the Feb2011 firmware did not resolve the issue.  The version I had prior to Feb2011 was fine but is not available on the Insignia site to download.  Can you provide me access to this previous version so I can resolve my issue.

Thanks,

Tim

Re: NS-WBRDVD2 - Firmware update killed the audio

Thanks John,

However I have tried both of the versions on the site and those are the two that are causing me problems.  Previously I had August 2010 firmware and everything worked fine with this.  I would dearly love to have access to the August 2010 version again so I can try to get my player working.   Any chance you can make this available to me?

thanks,

Tim

Re: NS-WBRDVD2 - Firmware update killed the audio

Hello again Tim,

Unfortunately, the August 2010 firmware is no longer available. However, I discussed your question with our technical team and they believe that this issue is due to hardware and not firmware related. They recommend that you connect your player via component or composite cables to see if the problem persists. Let us know your results!

Re: NS-WBRDVD2 - Firmware update killed the audio

All this information is good and all but there is no USB port on the NS-WBRDVD2.  I have the same issue since upgrading the firmware and it is not a hardware issue, what I would like is to downgrade back to the previous version.  Please advise on proper steps to do this.

You'll find the USB port on the front of the player underneath the fast forward emblem.  It has a plastic cover that can be removed with your thumb.  Good luck!

Thank you for the location of the usb port. After upgrading and downgrading FW, Problem still exist with audio and picture quality. This all happened when upgrading FW, any other suggestions?
