Re: NS-WBRDVD3 - No Internet Connection - Netflix

we got enough info here to negate the region thing Insignia is implying. Im  not sure we should believe that all  NS-WBRDVD3's are not effected either . Probably many people dont use the NF streaming option. There's always the possibility that all of our machines came from the same mfg lot. I bought mine on October 27th. It was so new that when I installed it it didnt get a firmware update until 12.8.11 when the problem started. & by the way the NF streaming worked fine for those 1st 40 days. Now the other facts I dont like are what the purpose of the firmware update is- "to prevent us from illegal copying of movies". Fine & good but it almost seems obvious that the firmware update is doing this so well it is preventing us from streaming. Im stuck thinking this.

And lastly Netflix upgraded their system around then too.  They have a whole blog dedicated to this.  I really dont understand it -its too technical for me but it almost seems that the security update & the Netflix "enhancement"(- probably to prevent theft of service) have created a new level of security that requires verification on a regular basis rather than 1 time only. I dont think they will change this as it is probably viewed as an "unfortunate inconvenience for the customer"  with excellent results (for them).

But it is a denial of service by netflix as they sold it to us & a warranty failure by Insignia as described by the product documentation & in both cases we are entitled to compensation/credit/replacement or some such consideration. I think after a reasonable amount of time -perhaps January 8th- 30 days from the Insignia firmware update we should as a group contact insignia by phone or seek "warranty service" at a BB Store and contact NF Custom Service & demand to speak to someone in billing or a supervisor - for a credit for 30 days of service problems.

If or when you go to BB you should  be prepared to bring a copy of the Insignia statements we have received here. Or more of them if you have the patience- but remember the BB store managher will be anxious to "handle you" & it cant be too complicated or you will get nowhere. Lastly 2 weeks ago I wrote to Insignia requesting a "document" I could bring to the store which would allow me to return my player for credit so I could apply that amount towards buying a "more expensive player". They never responded.

Its probably safe to say that either kind of "update" doesnt improve service or the operation of the device & that the primary purpose is security. It is obvious that they have gone too far. We are certainly being treated like the enemy.

Re: NS-WBRDVD3 - No Internet Connection - Netflix

El Paso, TX here.

I am going today to take my player back with receipt, copies of the emails I received from insignia and printouts of their responses to us here on this site. I'll post again later to let you all know the outcome. Let's hope for the best. Remember though that should I have a favorable (or unfavorable) outcome does not mean you will get the same result but it might help you when your time comes.

Re: NS-WBRDVD3 - No Internet Connection - Netflix

Just got a message left on my VM from Insignia's "back office." They said they're "still working on the issue with Netflix" and that they'll give me a "call back on January 6th to follow up on the issue." Ugh. That's two days shy of a month since the "issue" started.

Re: NS-WBRDVD3 - No Internet Connection - Netflix

Cincinnati Ohio here.

If it was a security issue that made you have to log in each time, then it would effect all players regardless of make and model. I have two older insignia BluRay players hooked up to stream. One is an older non wifi one that I have hooked up wireless with a gaming adapter which works great. The other is 2 years old and has no problems, just the new one has problems. The XBOX and WII both work fine too. It obviously is a problem with this new firmware. Insignia should send out the old firmware and downgrade them back until they figure out this problem with the new firmware. This is the worst customer service I think I have ever seen. I will never again buy an Insignia product. They were great a few years ago but after the last TV and now this Blu Ray problem.. I'm done for good and i swore by their products until now. I have a surround reciever, HDTV and 3 blu rays made by insignia, once they are broke or outdated, I'll continue to get Vizio's from here on out.. They seem to be quality built and test their firmwares before sending them out.

NS-WBRDVD3 Netflix solution!

My NS-WBRDVD3 Insignia Blu-Ray Disc Player would not reliably connect to our online Netflix account. A call to Insignia's help desk 877-467-4289 (David) revealed that there was a temporary problem with this particular model and the programs provided to Insignia by Netflix. The problem was that Netflix immediately forgets my unit's registrationinfo when it is turned off. The technician remarked that this problem may affect different areas of the U.S.

The following are my notes on a temporary procedure for getting connected to Netflix. Insignia indicated that a permanent solution is being developed.

  1. 1. Turn the Blu-Ray unit OFF.

  2. 2. Turn the Blu-Ray unit ON.

  3. On the TV screen, go to the Insignia Home Page.

  4. Select Settings/System/Deactivate Application and press ENTER

  5. Exit Settings

  6. Select Netflix for deactivation and press ENTER

  7. Turn the Blu-Ray unit OFF and allow the unit's indicator light to turn red

  8. Turn the Blu-Ray unit ON

  9. On the TV screen, go to the Insignia Home Page

  10. Select Netflix and press ENTER

  11. Answer “YES” to “Are you a member?” (If you are not a Netflix member, you must follow the on-screen instructions for opening a free-trial membership account)

  12. Write down a unique 6-digit code that will appear on the TV screen.

  13. On your computer, go to the Netflix website and select “My Account.”

  14. Select “Activate a DVD-ready device” and enter the 6-digit code you wrote down.

  15. If you are successful, your TV screen will indicate after a moment that it is connected to Netflix.

  16. Follow on-screen instructions for watching a movie of your choice.

  17. As a precaution, I think I'll leave the Blu-Ray turned ON even when I'm not using it.

Re: NS-WBRDVD3 Netflix solution!

Skip step 5, above, go to step 6 and select Netflix for deactivation. Sorry, my mistake.

Re: NS-WBRDVD3 - No Internet Connection - Netflix--SOLVED!

this has been documented in this forum for over 2 weeks. You have added many more steps than are required. You simply

1. turn on your br player.

2. Go to the set up-

3. restore factory settings. When this is completed

4. go to NF in the screen menu-

5. acknowledge membership -

6. acquire a code

7. Go Online to netflix- at bottom of the home page -click on setting up a new device

8. Enter the code you got in step 6

Your blue ray player will now play NF streaming.

Leaving your machine on will not help - it will time out after several hours of use or inactivity & you will have to go thru the process again. Anyway its only 8 steps & it takes about 3 minutes once you have done it several times. Part of the process is described in your br player manual as "the 1 time activation of your device for connection to netflix". Obviously when you do this the 1st time your machine is in the original factory setting mode.

Re: NS-WBRDVD3 - No Internet Connection - Netflix

We finally had enough of this problem, which has been going on for about a month and a half now.  Yes, as noted above, you only need to deactivate Netflix, then re-authorize, but having to do this multiple times a day, every day, has tried even my patience.  I bought this thing primarily to do NetFlix, and because the salesman said that buying an Insignia BR player meant I could use that remote to control my TV. (Not true, as I later found out.)

So, I went to Best Buy to try to return this thing.  I had kept the receipt some place where i wouldn't lose it, so of course I can't find it. The helpful gentleman at the counter was trying to find my purchase in the system, and after 15 minutes told me he had been searching in 2012.  I asked him to just search for any purchase made on my card for the past year, because I don't show there at much.  He told me their system couldn't handle that, and would time out. (Humm, must be an Insignia Point of Sale System)  He *had* to include all of the following criteria when searching: card number, credit/debit type, amount (+-$50), 2 month date range.  If I guessed any of these things wrong, he couldn't find it.  After about 25 minutes, I gave up.  His only suggestion was to check my bank statements to see if I could find a date, and with that we could try searching again,

Went home, logged into my bank.  Searched for "best" in the past 6 months. 2 seconds later I had 1 hit.  Why can I do in 2 seconds what the store can't in half an hour?

I'll try again, maybe tomorrow, to return this thing. Lesson learned. Never buy Insignia, and if possible, avoid best Buy at all.

Re: NS-WBRDVD3 Netflix solution!

As noted in the other thread, (the one with 9 pages of comments):

-This isn't a fix. You have do do this every day, or every time you power off- which ever comes first.

-No power on/off is needed in the process

-We knew this about a month ago

What this does tell us is that enough people are having this issue that Insignia is now training their phone reps on the work-around.

Re: NS-WBRDVD3 - No Internet Connection - Netflix--SOLVED!

I have to disagree with you on the "restoring factory settings". See by doing it your way you NOT ONLY have to reactivate Netflix but also Pandora and Cinemanow. If you ONLY deactivate NETFLIX, then when you get out of the settings, the only thing you wil have to REACTIVATE is NETFLIX. Your Pandora and Cinemanow will still be active and you won't have to do anything to those two apps. Just thought you should know this.
