I think a couple of others are having similar issues with other remotes pausing and stepping back the NS-BRDVD3 during disc playback.
When I press a button on my Onkyo receiver remote (i.e. volume up), the insignia blu ray player will pause and step back. Pressing the Onkyo remote repeatedly causes the movie to step back with each key press.
I've also noticed that there isn't a step back function on the actual Insignia BD003 remote. Perhaps the step back funtion can be disabled in the NS-BRDVD3 firmware.

Same issue on my NS-WBRDVD. Using a universal remote (MX-850 from URC). Changin the volume on my receiver (Harman Kardon) causes the DVD player to do the "step back" function as well.

Hello all,
A new firmware update was made available last night that resolves the "step back" issue. You'll be able to install the update via your player's built-in update system.
We're enormously grateful for the feedback you provided on this issue. You should be able to enjoy your new players without issue now, but please do not hesitate to let us know if you encounter any further difficulties.
Regards,
John

I also have Onkyo amp, and have/had the same problem.
I updated the firmware few days ago, and after that I got really weird audio problems. I didn't touch the setup in any way, so I'm guessing it was the FW update.
Here's (roughly) the symptoms in order they occurred:
-Update the FW. Everything went smoothly, player reboots.
-Audio on Netflix movie was jerky. Really bad. I tried couple of reboots, and also change the downsample off/48k/96k but no change.
-I tried other movie from Netflix, and same audio problem.
-I tried DVD (sex in the city), and the menus gave these glitch-sounds, like you get sometimes when the digital connection is faulty somehow. The movie itself was mute, no sounds at all.
-I tried Transformers 2 BD version. The Paramount-logo came with normal audio, no problems. Also the movie played with no problems.
-I tried Netflix movie again, this time audio was ok, no problems. I didn't change setting between these, so I don't know why it was jerky earlier.
-I tried Transformers 2 again. The Paramount logo is now mute, no audio at all. The menus give same glitches as the DVD gave also. The movie itself has normal audio though.
-I tried playing with the audio settings around, still the beginning of Transformers is mute but the movie itself plays fine.
I didn't have any of these before the update, so that's the biggest suspect. I have connected the player via optical to Onkyo amp (no HD codecs), and I've selected Legacy Audio at the settings.
Edit: And now I notice there's separate thread for this problem.
