Recommendations on the Insignia NS-2BRDVD

Well based on the response I have been reading both on this board and online Insignia, and there by Best Buy, are getting a bad reputation over a minor technical issue that should have been addressed in the design of the NS-2BRDVD unit.

So we purchased the unit, in good faith, seeing that it had both a USB and LAN port but I for one was not told that nether of these port were turned on. In fact they were disabled via the BIOS in the device, yet the sales person (in my case anyway) used the fact that this unit did have these ports. Well the software update does open the USB port so that in the future you would only have to down load the update to a USB thumb drive and upgrade via that option; now if only some forethought would have been used to make that option available in the first place you would be able to cut your complaints down by half.

It would be a wiser choice to also turn on and use the LAN port so that we can use it for upgrades as well as a Multi Media option. The real issue hear is not that the unit had an issue with new Blue Ray format, all the other brands did too, it was on how difficult Insignia made the process to install the upgrade by assuming that all their customers had a DVD/CD burner and the correct software and know-how to use them all to create a DVD/CD for one small patch. This may just be due to the inexperience of the people making these decisions but it still hurts the customers in the long run.

So in future think about making all parts of the equipment (DVD player, monitors, TV's, etc.) usable, intuitive and easy to use, just think about walking your grand mother through the process of doing an upgrade and if it seems like that will never happen unless you drive down to do the upgarde yourself then rethink the whole thing over until you can explain it in just 4 words or less (put the disk in) ...
