Use USB for wireless networking?

Can the USB port on the NS-BRDVE3 be used with a USB wireless 802.11g adapter to connect to the network instead of the ethernet port?

Hello bkmw,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

According to the owner's manual, the USB port on your player is for BD-Live functionality and wouldn't be useful for a wireless adapter.  However, Insignia offers a wireless Blu-ray model that may better suit your needs.  I hope this helps.

What you need is a Wireless bridge device like the Netgear-WGPS606 is the best Wireless bridge around,
I have been using one for years now, both for my xbox 360 and my Eth. Printer, the Netgear-WGPS606
gives ANY device with an RJ45 Ethernet port wireless access.. you can still buy it new for $79
or off ebay for $26-34 with free shipping ..

Netgear-WGPS606  FTW for any Ethernet device to wireless access ..

$79 - New

$34 with free S/H (used)

if you need help setting one up let me know .. its easy anyways .. just run the CD that comes with it

and answer all the Q..

However, that model costs roughly $80 more.  As a consumer I know you can add the wireless for much less and I am not willing to pay that much more.  Our only alternative for wireless on the NS-BRDVD3 is a wireless bridge and unfortunately for us consumers you know that solution currently costs us consumers $60 - $100.  Manufacturers add both an Ethernet port and wireless to all modern computers and I would like to see all Blu-Ray players do the same.

I just got this one as a gift and am now scratching my head why wireless was not included and shopping for a wireless bridge.

Or you could scratch your head and wonder why the person that gave it to you as a gift didn't spring for the wireless model in the first place.

Re: Use USB for wireless networking?

If you have a laptop just create a wireless bidge using your laptop that is what i did.So when you need to go on blu-ray live just plug your laptop next to your blu-ray and that is it.
