Re: firmware issue

jlh123,

I also just updated my Insignia NS-WBRDVD2 firmware today. I have it connected wirelessly to my router. I ran the firmware update and experienced the same thing after the initial reboot. The DVD player starts with Insignia splash screen on the TV, then it disappears, then power button starts flashing, then Hello appears in the DVD window, Hello then disappears... Rinse Wash Repeat...

About 2 hours ago, I called their tech support line and they had me unplug the DVD player then plug it back in - no effect. I was informed others were experiencing a similar issue and was instructed to take the DVD player back to Best Buy for a replacement. I was also advised not to immediately update the firmware, but to give it a few weeks while the developers have a chance to resolve and release new firmware updates.

I've since tried to update the DVD using a USB memory stick, but it does not boot from the USB port / memory stick (this would be a wise option for Insignia - bootable USB brick recovery). I've also tried a few other things in hopes of circumventing the trip to Best Buy, but no luck.

Firmware blowout

Updated last night to the new firmware. Now my player sits nicely, says hello and does nothing. Power light blinks blue. No menu, no dvd (stuck inside now) and nothing works. I've tried downgrading the firmare and it won't reccognize the memory stick. I did the upgrade over the internet last night and decided to try and down grade using the memory stick. Nothing. Powered the unit off  (Unplug) and still no dice. Any help?

Re: Firmware blowout

I also have a problem with the latest firmware update.  When I power up the Player it comes on but keeps flashing between no signal and the startup screen.  I tried leaving it for a few minutes, still keeps on flashing back and forth.  Now the really good part.  If I load a Blue-Ray DVD and let the player load the disk it starts the movie and the player functions normally even if I take the disk out.  Then I can even go onto Netflix and play downloaded movies.  But if I turn it off and try it starts the blinking again.  I tried downloading the firmware to a flash drive and got it to re-load the firmware ( BETWEEN the  BLINKING) and it still does the same thing,  My spouse will not handle this very good. PLEASE ADVISE ASAP!

Re: Firmware blowout

LeoP,

How were you able to eject the dvd? I cannot seem to get the dvd drawer open.

Thanks

Re: Firmware blowout

I found some instructions on how to burn an iso image to disc and have done that (see posting:

Insignia NS-2BRDVD Blu-Ray Player Firmware Update). I then copied the produced files from the cd to the usb memory stick. It still didn't boot from the memory stick. But I am thinking that if we can actually insert the disc into the drive (again i can't seem to open mine) then it "should" boot to the cd and allow us to hopefully either roll back or reinstall. I have both the previous and current firmware update ico files extracted to cd now. Just need to open dvd drawer without injury and try it out. But then again... best buy is only 10 minutes away!

Re: firmware issue

Same problem here.  NS-WBRDVD2... got a message on my screen today to update to the February firmware.  I had second thoughts but did it anyway.  Now my player just flashes the blue light at the power button and Hello cycles off and on.  Nothing on the TV screen.  It was working fine before that.  **bleep** this freakin aggravating.  I'm trying to download the August firmware to try to roll it back via thumb drive.  The file is only 45 MB and it's taking FOREVER to download over a cable internet connection.  I wonder if everyone who owns one of these has just gotten hosed?

Re: firmware issue

is this for real?

i also updated the firmware and the player has been flipping out.

get insignia splash screen but tv says no video signal, audio trips back and forth.

i cannot do anything to get this work. i updated the firmware to the february version.

i'm not sure i'll ever upgrade my firmware if this is what happens.

you would think a consumer company with supposed experts on updates and implementation would be able to TEST AND MAKE SURE an upgrade works before you make it live and it screws everyones players and you cannot scramble fast enough to fix it...really insignia? this player has been nothing but problems since day one. I will not be buying a thing from insignia...and you better believe anyone within an arms reach will hear about it.

please please please fix this ridiculous issue that you caused.

Re: firmware issue

Roll-back didn't work... it's in the box and will return to BB tomorrow.  Too bad, I liked this player and it was a good price with builtin WiFi.  Won't get another.
