I too have recently purchased and had playback problems with the NS-BDLIVE01 Model for Avatar. ALL OTHER BLU-RAYS WORK FINE. I have to admit that I was a little hesistant to buy a lower model Blu-Ray player last August but I have had reasonably good experiences with Best Buy. I mean $150 is still a lot for a movie player but I figured at least I wouldn't need to replace it soon.
Now with recent changes it seems every other manufacturer has released firmware updates. Where is yours Insignia? I find it hard to believe that your model doesn't need an upgrade - has your technology surpassed the likes of LG, Samsung, and Sony?
I will be discontinuing all future purchases from insignia. With the age of technology there is not a single relevant explanation on the web to tell me what to do to fix my problem. I will be returning my player back to Best Buy to demand a refund using the 1 year manufacturer's warranty - there is no clause about not being able to play certain types of Blu-Rays within your region.
I suggest others do the same.
Sincerely yours,
An angry customer

Maybe i can insert foot into mouth later.......it appears that if you select the "next chapter" button several times when the message comes up about updating your firmware, the movie will go to the normal screen.
I have not verified the sound clarity / volume continuation but the video seems unaltered. Hope this helps for some of you who have the NS-BDLIVE01 model. I will say though the blu-ray player makes noises like it is having issues reading the disc, albiet with a little bit of work it seems to play.

please please please!!!!....................
For people who have a lot read problems , buy a lens cleaner . just played the avatar blu ray tonight with no problems ( man I am getting sick of repeating this) I don't know why it won't play for some people , but it not a firmware issue . My last update was the June 2009. Start adding build dates of your players . Maybe there is another issue that needs to be addressed besides always assuming it a firmware problem.
And the avatar blu-ray says "YOU MAY NEED A FIRMWARE UPDATE" not " you need to update the firmware" big differences in the wording........

Uou did not answer the question....................does the BRDVD play Avatar??? I have bought Couples retreat and Inglorias Bastards and neither will play with the current firmware. Before I buy a new bluray I rather know before so I don't spend money on a disk that I can't use.
I clean my electronics often so I don't need to buy a new one
BTW, seeing that you only posted 8 times so far you should not be "sick" of repeating yourself

Can someone from Insignia please confirm or deny the statement in that posting...
"The product (ns-bdlive01/ns-2brdvd) has been discontinued so there will be no more firmware updates. "
Is it true that Insignia stops supporting a product as soon as it is discontinued?

Hello oneoldbob,
Welcome to Community@Insignia™!
Firmware updates are developed on an as needed basis to address functionality issues. Because Blu-ray is still a new and evolving format, we support "legacy" players so that you and our other customers can continue to enjoy Blu-ray content.
On a general level, Insignia supports current and legacy products by ensuring that replacement parts and service options are available for them, even after the factory warranty expires. So, as you can see, we support our products after discontinuation.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
John
