Okay so I recently purchased the HD 5MP 720p camcorder from Best Buy and I'm LOVING it!  But when I read through the user guide I noticed that it says "LED is green when connected to computer in PC camera mode and red when connected in USB mass storage mode".  Does this mean I can use it as a webcam to do direct uploads to site such as YouTube?  I tried to connect in PC camera mode, the light turned green, and the plug and play pop ups began running (windows xp) but then it said "unable to connect hardware" or something along those lines.  I have all of the drivers installed from the mini disc and everything works fine except for PC camera mode.  If anyone knows the solution I would greatly appreciate the help.  Thank you in advance!

I can not find anything in on my disc about it being able to be used as a PC camera.

I apologize for the delay in reply.  I consulted our technical team and was informed that this camcorder actually does not have PC Camera Mode functionality.  This is an unfortunate typographical error in the manual.  I wish I had better news for you and I'm sorry for any inconvenience.

Thank you for clearing that up John, I really appreciate the help.  Having the PC camera function would have been a really nice feature but I still LOVE the camcorder nontheless!

I have the same model of camera presently running nicely with Windows 7 RC. The previous poster is correct in stating that when the camera is in a green LED state it does popup an unknown device called "INSIGNIA" complete with manufacturer id, io advertisements, etc, etc. It is certainly a valid WDM device expecting a driver. Is this a feature Insignia put into the camera hardware, but never wrote the driver software for? If so - it would really, really be a nice feature to have. Kind of been wanting to play with stop-motion. Either way, like the original poster, I do love my camera - just wish it had that functionality.

the ONLY reason this cam doesn't work as a webcam is because support is too LAZY to write the driver.

If there was just a driver it would work fine.

Just got my camera yesterday. I just registered here to ask for the drivers for the webcam mode, but I guess I got my answer. That suck, I really wanted to use that, too.
