NS-DCC5HB09 - Digital Camcorder

Hi there,

I have had this camcorder for 2 years and have only used it 5 or 6 times, enough for 1 battery use. I finally figured out how to really use the camcorder and started enjoying it and the battery went dead for the 1st time. So I used the USB cable to the computer and left it on all night and the morning after the camcorder was still completely dead.

So, I tried our other computer, SAME THING! Then I used the AC adapter and that didn't even turn a light on the camcorder or anything.

I have read that there have been a lot of problems with these batteries, but is that the problem or am I doing something wrong?

If I need a new battery, are they still available since the camera is discontinued? If so, where can I get one and how much would one cost?

Thanks,

H.M.

Hello H.M.,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

Firstly, you must to use the AC adapter to charge this unit.  It won't charge by USB, as you discovered.  If it won't charge by AC either, then it is most likely the battery at fault.  A replacement can be purchased here.

Re: NS-DCC5HB09 - Digital Camcorder

Hello there.  Just purchased my NS-DCC5HB09 from the Cypress Swatmeet (i.e. for $35.00).  It didn't come with an AC Wall charger, but had everything else standard.  In the mean time, nothing work along the lines of charghing USB to Computer; other capatable MINI USB chargers etc.  Went to Best Buy, earlier in the week, figuring that since it's there product line, that maybe they will stock a replacement AC Wall Charger.  NOT..., the sales tech offered me a universal type charger and told me it will work for the camera.  I figured, since I didn't want to go home and be dissappointed, I proposed the following to the tech.  Lets say I purchased this item right now on the spot with my credit card; we go over to your Customer Service area and unpackage the item, and try to charge my cam.   No biggie, since Best Buy does have/ offer a good return policy.  What do you say, thing DID NOT charge as sugguested by the tech.  Initially chime, three or four flashes, and solid red.  That means that the battery IS NOT CHARGING.  Nothing else Best Buy could do for me.   Determined, I went home, got on the internet (Ebay), bam, there it was, a compatabile charger, with a 30 day money back pollicy.  The guy/seller went on to say how he has the same model, and that he is aware of the problem that alot of people were having attempting to charge there units etc.  But he ensure me that the charger would charge the unit.  Received it in one day, and it worked like a charm.  Only paid $16.00, whereas Best Buy wanted to charge me $21.00 etc., for a unit that didn't even work for their own signature line product (Insignia).  Go figure.  What I did figure out on my own was that, taking the MINI USB AC WAll Charger and plugging it in the camera first, then plug the unit into the outlet seem to work seemlessly.  I have read all the blog post on this issue, and Insigina has been completely non-responsive to this specific issue (i.e. purchased units failing to appropriately charge).  Another oddity, the NS-DCC5HB09 was discontinued.  While in Best Buy, I noticed another simular CAM Corder, but was limited to only 5x zoom, whereas the NS-DCC5HB09 had 8x zoom.  The unit that is currently on sale is featured for $69.00 etc. listed as refurbished.  The NS-DCC5HB09 is way more loaded with features than what is currently being offered.  Why was such a good unit discontinued so early, and a less inferior product offered currently??  I smell a rat.  Good luck my friend.

Re: NS-DCC5HB09 - Digital Camcorder

Hi John,

Well it seems that Insignia no longer offers replacement parts as the parts website no longer functions?  All I need is the specs on the original charger so that I can make an informed decision on a new one.  Please don't give me a bunch of "black box' nonsense. I need the Volts and Amps of the output.  Thanks.
