Hello neophyte26,
We apologize for the long delay in response. Since you tried several batteries, the camcorder is most likely in need of service.
The indicator light you meniton flashes red when charging, then goes off once the battery is fully charged. When the camera is on the light stays solid green. The switch on the side allows you to select the scene mode (portrait, landscape or macro).

I'm still confused. When I press movie button the light changes from green to red (rec). Does that mean when the light is red the camera is recording or is it recording when the light is green?
My camera also shut down the first day I had it. Was able to take 40 pictures and 5 minutes total of video (10 sec-15 each as I couldn't tell if I was recording a video or not). Will attempt to buy new battery. ![]()

Hello jbainto,
The Front LED will have the following codes:
GREEN (STEADY) - when turning on
RED - PC connection
Regarding the battery life, seems short to me (but keep in mind that when the camera is on, although not recording, it will be consuming the battery). For what you say, seems this is a used item, and perhaps the camera's battery was depleted so fast due to previous owner misuse (not letting the battery fully charge or not completing a cycle every once in a while). If you are looking to replace the battery, the part number is 084-07042L-019A and it is available thorough our parts dept (1-888-237-8289).
If it was useful, and you liked it, Kudo it!
Thank you,
Gonza
