Can I use a usb cable to directly download photos from a computer file to the photo frame internal memory? Any special steps required?

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

You absolutely can connect your Photo Frame to your computer by USB and copy pictures to the internal memory. Basically, once your Photo Frame is connected to your computer, it will appear in Windows Explorer or the Finder on a Mac as a "removable disk" or USB drive respectively. You may then drag and drop or copy and paste photos to the frame's internal storage. You can find all the details on copying photos in the User Manual, beginning on page 15.
