CNV 10 connectivity

I bought an Insignia CVn10 in January which included one year of connectivity which I assume is accessed through the SIM card.  A couple of months ago, I broke the screen.  The unit still powered up, but the screen was off and did not resond to touch.  I called Insignia to see if they could repair it, but they reffered me to the Geek Squad who said thay could not repair it.  I bought a new CNV10 off ebay with the assumption that I could put the SD and SIM card in the new unit and be back to connectivity.  When I did so, the unit works as before except for the connectivity part.  I assume this is because the original unit that I purchased is "tied" to that SIM card.  Can I get the second unit (purchased on ebay) to be "tied to" or read the SIM card from the original unit so that I can use as before?  When I purchased the original unit, it came with one year of connectivity - I just want to transfer that service to a new unit.  Thank you

Re: CNV 10 connectivity

Hello Mrbga,

Welcome to the forums!

I apologize for the long delay in getting an answer for you.  In short, the SIM card may or may not work in a different unit.  Here's why:  the SIM cards are tied to the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) or modem ID of the device.  There were two series of modems used in the production of the CNV10 and your SIM card will only be compatible with one of them.  There is no way to identify which modem is in any given unit without disassembling it.  To my understanding, there is not a way other than this to transfer the included year of connectivity service.

I'm truly sorry that I couldn't give you a firmer response, but this comes directly from our technical team.

Sincerely,
John
