I bought a NS-CNV20 almost a year ago. I took it to Best Buy the other day to get the maps updated and they told me there had not been an update released since I bought it in Dec of 2008. I cant believe that almost a year has gone buy an no updates have been released, but I am fixing to have to pay $100.00 to renew.
I want to know if this is going to continue to be the case because if so I am getting rid of it and getting a Name Brand GPS that updates their maps.
I was also told by Best Buy Geek Squad that I could go to the Insignia website and update the maps myself if this is true that would be nice if someone ever released map updates.

You are following the correct process, sorry for the confusion on this issue. Map updates are released from the map data providers (Navteq in this case) each quarter and then need to formated for each device, which takes about 60 days. We released a map update in the Spring and we are working on finalizing a new release in the next month.
If you can give me more details on the store you visited, we can work with them to ensure they have the latest map update to upgrade your device.

It was the Best Buy in Weatherford, Texas.
Why would they tell me I could download the map updates myself?
Thanks for your reply.

So it sounds like there are never going to be quarterly updates, only one per year.
This is very disapointing.

Sorry for the continued confusion on this issue. We are releasing a new map update next week and will send communication out to all stores on the update and procedure for updating customers.

If you convert the maps published by Navteq, you can convert Mexico´s Navteq maps to Insignia devices. Do you have any plan to provide maps for other countries? I need to know this in order to decide in keeping your gps.
I was told at Best Buy (Dallas, TX) I can download maps from Mexico from Navteq web page, but this isn't true.
Thank you,
Alfonso

Has this update been released?
This has been very dissapointing as I recieved this at Christmas last year, and the "Quarterly Map Updates" have amounted to one last spring and this one that no one appears to know about.
I haven't recieved the notification that is supposed to go out to the GPS when a release is made. In addition I was at Best Buy for another reason and the "Geek Squad" said they don't have any idea about any updates. They told me to go to the car stereo department where the GPS is sold and they might be able to tell me. Of course there wasn't even a person in that department, not that it matters as the "Geek Squad" should have known about this, since they are supposed to do updates for all of the GPS equipment they sell. My guess is they didn't want to be bothered to even check.
All that said, I have very little respect or use for the "Geek Squad" for many opther reasons, this only re-enforces that opinion, is there any way to get this update if it existes yet, myself so that I can apply it? I don't understand why this is any different than all of the other electronic equipment out there, including my previous GPS, which I could get updates for online and apply myself.
Thanks for any direction or assistance you can provide..
Mark
