How do I run the Recovery Disk (DVD) for my Insignia PC?

[ Edited ]

How do I run the Recovery Disk (DVD) for my Insignia PC? I put it in the DVD drive and nothing happens.

In order to run the Recovery Disk, you must boot the computer from it. In order to do so, please follow the steps below:

NOTE: Please backup all your files before running the Recovery DVD, since it may erase all the information in your Hard-Drive!!!

• Turn on your computer and wait until it fully loads (until you get to the Windows desktop).

• Put the Recovery Disk in the DVD drive (the Recovery Disk is a DVD, so please make sure you're using it on a DVD drive, not a CD-ROM drive).

• Turn off your computer (with the Recovery Disk inside the DVD drive).

• Turn on your computer and press the "R" key on your keyboard repeatedly until you get to a screen that says "Protected by PC Angel" (stop pressing the "R" key at that time).

• Follow the on-screen instructions.

Which Recovery mode should I use when running the Recovery Disk?

• When you run the Recovery Disk, you will be prompted to choose from the following modes:

  - Non-Destructive System Recovery

  - System Recovery - No Format

  - System Recovery - Quick Format

• The first option, Non-Destructive System Recovery, will reinstall all the software that came with your computer (Windows XP, Cyberlink Power2Go, etc.) while trying to keep all of your files. This is only recommended as a last solution, since it may lead to software conflicts with software you may have installed since you purchased the computer.

• The second option, System Recovery - No Format, will delete all the contents in your Hard-Drive, then reinstall Windows XP along with all the programs that came installed on the computer at the time you purchased it.

• The third option, System Recovery - Quick Format, will format the Hard Drive, then reinstall Windows XP along with all the programs that came installed on the computer at the time you purchased it.

Can I update my Windows XP to Windows Vista?

[ Edited ]

Can I update my Windows XP to Windows Vista?

• Even though most of the Windows Vista System Requirements are met by our Desktop PCs, you will need to have 512 MB (Windows Vista Home Basic) or 1 GB of RAM (Windows Vista Home Premium or better)minimum before you can install/upgrade to Windows Vista. This means you must add RAM memory to your Insignia PC before you install Windows Vista (since the onboard video card takes 8MB from your RAM, Windows Vista detects 504 MB of RAM and will not install unless you add more RAM to your PC).

• Also, keep in mind that you will not be able to take full advantage of Windows Vista new features (i.e. the Aero interface) due to the onboard Video card.
