Question 1: How do I open the Action Center?

The Action Center displays notifications and provides quick access to frequently used settings.ACTION_CENTER.png

  • Swipe from the right edge of your tablet toward the center of the screen.
    OR
  • Tap icon_action-center.png in the lower-right corner of the taskbar.

Question 2: How do I switch between tablet and desktop modes?

  • Open the Action Center (see Question 1), then tap Tablet mode to switch between tablet and desktop modes.

To change the default mode:

  1. Open Icon_Settings.pngSettings > Icon_Settings_System.pngSystem > Tablet mode.
  2. Under When I sign in, use the drop-down menu to select the option you want:
    • Use tablet mode
    • Use desktop mode
    • Use the appropriate mode for my hardware

  • If in tablet mode, tap Icon_Search.gif(search) or original.gif (Cortana) in the taskbar, tap the search box to open the keyboard, then type what you are looking for.
    OR
  • If in desktop mode, tap the search bar to type what you are looking for. If the on-screen keyboard does not open automatically, tap Icon_Keyboard2.gif(keyboard) in the lower-right corner of your screen.

You can search for apps, settings, and files to quickly locate them.

 

If in tablet mode:

  1. Tap Icon_Search.gif(search) or Icon_Cortana_2.gif(Cortana) in the taskbar. If the on-screen keyboard does not open automatically, tap keyboard.gif (keyboard) in the lower-right corner of your screen.
  2. Type the name of the app, setting, or file that you are looking for, then select it from the list.

 

If in desktop mode:

  1. Tap the search bar in the taskbar.
  2. Type the name of the app, setting, or file that you are looking for, then select it from the list

Question 5: How do I make my battery last longer?

  • Turn off Wi-Fi when you aren’t using it.
  • Turn off Bluetooth when you aren’t using it.
  • Lower the screen brightness.
  • Limit background activity and push notifications. Tap Icon_Battery.pngin the taskbar, then tap Battery saver.

Question 6: How do I add additional users to my tablet?

You can add family members or other users to your tablet.

 

To add a family member:

  1. Open Icon_Settings.pngSettings >  Icon_Settings_Accounts.pngAccounts > Family & other people.
  2. Tap Add a family member. A new window opens.

  3. Select Add a child or Add an adult, enter their email address, then tap Next.
    Note: If the new user doesn’t have an email address, tap The person I want to add doesn’t have an email address.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

 

To add other users:

  1. Open Icon_Settings.pngSettings >  Icon_Settings_Accounts.pngAccounts > Family & other people.
  2. Tap Add someone else to this PC. A new window opens.

  3. If the new user has an email address, enter it, then tap Next.
    OR
    If you don’t have an email address, tap I don’t have this person’s sign-in information. You can follow the on-screen instructions to create a new Microsoft account or tap Add a user without a Microsoft account.
  4. If you entered or created an email address, have the new user accept the email invitation, then sign in to your tablet with the same email address.

Question 7: What should I do if I forget my password?

  • Your password is your Microsoft account password. If you do not have a Microsoft account, use the password associated with the email address you used during setup.
    Note: If you forget a PIN or picture password, tap Sign-in options, then tap NS-15MS0832B-10-C_graphic.gifto sign in with your Microsoft account instead.
  • If you forget your Microsoft account password, go to https://account.live.com/password/reset to reset it.

You cannot connect your tablet to another computer to view or transfer files with a USB charging cable. See Question 9 for information about transferring files.

  • Use a micro SD card or flash drive.
  • Use a cloud service.
