Insignia Flex 8 NS-P16AT08 problems

I got one of these tablets as a Christmas gift and have been having problems with it powering on. Almost daily it will hang and freeze at the Insignia flex logo that first appears when powering it on normally. After shutting it down manually (holding power button for 10 seconds) a few times it will finally power on normally after about the 3rd or 4th try.

Monday night I was using it and noticed the battery getting low so I plugged the charger in and continued to use it for about another 20 minutes. After that I powered the tablet off while leaving the charger attached and let it charge all night (battery level was about 30% when I powered off). Tuesday when I went to power it on, it froze at the Insignia logo about 10 times of trying to power it on, I also tried using the reset button to no avail would not power on no matter what I did. I then decided to re connect the charger (while powered off) and discovered it was still at 30% charge so I let it charge to 100% and it powered on no problem after that.

Well today when I went to power it on absolutely nothing happened. I plugged the charger in and nothing happened, no battery icon nothing. Pressed the reset button nothing. I found a post on here saying to leave it plugged in for about 2 hours and then press the reset button. I did that and it powered on finally and the battery level was 9%. It is charging right now and it says 35% so it's taking charge. Now I can't say for sure but I don't think the battery was that low when I powered it off last night I may be wrong though.

Also the tablet gets warm while charging is this normal or do I have a faulty battery? It doesn't get hot just warm to the touch.

Hopefully a tech will reply here shortly because I possibly plan on taking this back to BB for warranty tomorrow or in a few days if it doesn't resolve.

Re: Insignia Flex 8 NS-P16AT08 problems

Also another thought I just had. Could it be the version of Android causing problems? I know on my HTC phone I had, they updated to a different version of android and it pretty much had the same symptoms of freezing and powering on problems.

The android version on my tablet is 5.0.1. Has there been an update yet? I've tried to update but it says no update available.

Re: Insignia Flex 8 NS-P16AT08 problems

I cannot get my device to boot at all. Not sure what happened.  I guess there are no firmware zips to flash a stock room. Do you know how to do a rom dump? If not I can tell you how. Would you be nice enough to dump your rom and upload it for me? I wanna try to turn it into a flashable rom so I can install it so I can fix my tablet.

Re: Insignia Flex 8 NS-P16AT08 problems

All of my devices will get warm while charging, and even warmer if they are being used while charging. I have noticed though that this tablet gets warm if I am just using it while it's not charging. It usually gets warm after about 10 minutes of use. Also, I think the OEM cords are under powered, cause my charger for my RCA voyager charger this tablet great, but sometimes the OEM charger doesn't even charge. My device was perfect then one day it just would not boot. I called insignia and they said call the geek squad, the geek squad said call insignia. This back and forth went on with insignia and the geek squad for a couple days and neither company could figure out who handles repairs, insignia says the geek squad handles repairs and the geek squad says insignia handles repairs. Finally insignia opened up a case and said I had to wait a few days for the company to decide what to do with my device, and after a couple days they contacted me and said to contact the geek squad. Basically for a whole week I tried to find out what to do about my insignia tablet to get it fixed or replaced. I finally talked to best buy and told them I needed to know where to send the device to get it did do or replaced and after being on the phone with them for exactly one hour and fourth six minutes the finally said they would send me a box to send my device back. I have a feeling when they get my device they are going to contact me telling me to send my device to insignia and not to them. If this happens I will never ever buy another insignia or best buy product. Insignia and best buy cannot even figure out who covers the one year warranty on their own device. If they won't fix it I will be left with a useless device unless I can find a way to flash a firmware zip.

Re: Insignia Flex 8 NS-P16AT08 problems

Hello CarGuy7a,

Welcome to Community@ Insignia™!

The best troubleshooting for this issue is to reset the tablet, which you have already tried. The best option now is to get the tablet into store to exchange.

Most devices will get a little warm while charging, this is not something to be concerned with. Also this issue is not because of the Andoird version number.

Re: Insignia Flex 8 NS-P16AT08 problems

I did get the tablet working yesterday. Actually I'm using it to post this. I turned it off last night with 68% battery and when I turned it on today it booted back up normally showing about 70% battery. I think what may be happening is I'm letting the battery get too low. It seems if I let it get 30% or lower and shut it down it will not power back on correctly until I charge it. Does this sound about right? I'll continue to experiment with it and if I can narrow it down to me letting the battery get to low then I'll chalk it up to me just letting the charge get too low.

Re: Insignia Flex 8 NS-P16AT08 problems

So it froze on me again yesterday. Now another problem became apparent. I know for sure last night I powered it down. Sometime shortly after powering it down it must have powered itself back on because I went to turn it on a few minutes ago and it was already on. It said the up time was about 13 hours or so which would be about right compared to when I powered it down. Definitely weird. I'll be making a trip to BB tomorrow.

Hello CarGuy7a,

Thank you for responding!

Taking it to the store for warranty does seem like the best course of action at this point. If you have any other questions or concerns let us know? If you have any issues or concerns with the warranty at the store, also let us know.

Re: Insignia Flex 8 NS-P16AT08 problems

I took it to BB yesterday and exchanged for a new one. The new one seems to work great so far but then again I've only had it for 1 day so time will tell but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I charged it fully before powering it on the first time and I used it all the way down to about 35% battery and left it off all night and today I turned it on and it powered up without any problems whatsoever.
