Hello rogmi,
Welcome to Community@Insignia™!
Have you tried a different set of new batteries or are you using an external A/C adapter? Have you adjusted the volume setting on the speakers? If you have tried these steps without success, I would recommend returning to the retailer of purchase for an exchange (if within the retailer's return period) or service. Your speakers have a one year factory warranty so repairs should be covered if within that timeframe.
Regards,
John

Hello again rogmi,
Welcome to Community@Insignia™!
According to the owner's manual, the speakers require a power source, either batteries or A/C adapter (not included with the speakers). They are not powered via the USB port on your computer.
I apologize for my error about the speakers having a volume control.
Regards,
John

Actually, the owners manual shows the speakers can be plugged into a device that has a USB port to function. Please note page 7 of the hard copy manual that comes with the speakers. Our computers with Windows 7, don't 'see' the fact that the speakers are connected. The battery box was listed as the option for a device that doesn't have a USB port. Are there drivers for the speakers? We just bought 25 of these units and it would be nice not to need batteries or a 5 volt DC adapter for the speakers to function. Thanks in advance.

...just an update. Although not loud, the speakers do work without the battery box when the speakers are plugged into a USB port on our computers. The audio in connector needs to be plugged into the headphone / audio out jack as well.

Was anything ever figured out with this? I'm having the exact same problem. Hook them up to my Windows 7 laptop or desktop and NOTHING. No sign of any power, not recognized by system, no sound. Tried using USB power (NO, you DO NOT need an A/C adapter). Works fine on my Windows XP laptop.
Certainly not a good sign that the Insignia guy insisted we need an A/C power adapter if not using the battery pack.

Hello ScoHo,
We have not been able to duplicate this issue in our tests using a Windows 7 laptop. Some things to note from our testing, you need to have both the USB and the green analog plugged into the computer. Also your computer must be configured to have the analog port enabled. On some systems if you are using another output that also carries audio such as HDMI or S/PDIF this may interfere. Also something else to try would be to use the supplied battery box instead of powering via the computers USB. This will allow us to ensure that the speakers are indeed getting power.
If you continue to have issues beyond this please private message me the specifications of the computers that you are having the issues with and I will take a deeper look at your situation.
Regards,
Tom

I have a version model # NS-PLTPSP2 but it's the same product. I believe I have a broken audio wire. The 3.5 mm plug is in my MP3 player Plugged in and both speakers are firmly inserted. I only have sound coming out of one speaker, I switched the cords and the speaker that did work doesn't and the speaker that didn't work works. Only problem is I can't find a replacement cable for this unit. Linking to the partsstore.com says it has nothing under my model #. I like the flat panels since the area I use them is very limited in space. Ideas?
