I am trying to connect my new speakers. I only get a crackling sound and can not get any sound as played from my computer- ie Skype or Itunes. I am running  Windows XP. From the control panel. the sound playback in the  Sounds & Audio Devices shows as 'C-Media Wave Device'. All volumes are up and functioning although this device does not show up in the list in ' Hardware'

Hello Scotte,

I suggest making sure that you are plugging the speakers into the correct audio output port on the back of the computer. The computer will not detect the speakers since they are analog and the C-Media device that it is showing is actually audio device in the computer. I would also suggest connecting the speakers to a MP3 player or some other audio device to test them, however if they are crackling they may be in need of repair.
