AND THE AWARD GOES TO: Watching the 2010 Industry Award Nominees at Home
By Aaron King
Best Buy® Blue Shirt
Buckhead Store #890
Atlanta, GA
The awards are Sunday and this year, it’s a whole new ballgame. Ten Best Picture nominees open the floor to otherwise snubbed films and with the Academy’s votes spread across 10 films, any one film can rise above by the slimmest of margins. It also means you’ve got a lot more movies to watch this week. Of the 10 Best Picture nominees, five are currently available on DVD and Blu-ray: District 9, The Hurt Locker Inglourious Basterds, A Serious Man and Up.
To bone up on the nominees this year, I’m going to use my Insignia wifi-enabled Blu-ray player – I can use it to connect to my Netflix account and stream the movies instantly on my TV. And when I pop in a standard DVD, it even upconverts the quality to 720p – better than the original DVD quality – which is good because I’ve heard those alien things in District 9 are crazy looking! And for a cool computer animated movie like Up, it would be a crime not to watch it on Blu-ray to experience the full 1080p resolution.
So far I really liked The Hurt Locker, but I’ve also heard great things about A Serious Man. I’m excited to watch all of the nominees and make my expert predictions – us Blue Shirts take our movies pretty seriously, and we love to chat with movie buffs of all kinds about how Best Buy can help maximize their at-home movie viewing experience!
