Apparently Best Buy sold me a previously returned 3.5" Infocast, because it is registered to another user.
How do I deactivate it? Or do I need to return it to Best Buy?

I would perform a factory reset. I believe it is accopomplished by turning off the power, touch (and hold) screen, and turning power back on. You should be presented with several options.

Unfortunately that doesn't remove the activation. Thanks for the suggestion though.

So...you performed a factory reset. Then you went to chumby.com to activate a new unit, which takes you to the point and of entering the button pattern on the chumby, which you do. Chumby.com now tells you that this device is already registered?! That surprises me.
Sorry I could not help more.

The factory reset does not remove the user information. It never gives me the screen to enter the button pattern.

Hi Rogee,
Welcome to Community@Insignia™!
I truly apologize for the late response and even more for the inconveniences experienced with you Infocast 3.5".
I have been doing some research and indeed the "Factory Reset" will not deactivate the Infocast from a previous account linked to it so it's ready to be activated with a new account of your choice.
Due to this I am forwarding this inquiry to our engineering team to find a proper solution for you.
You got my promise I will get back to you as soon as possible with any additional feedback or assistance we may be able to provide you.
Happy New Year!
Regards,
Nicolas

Thanks for the reply, Nicolas. No worries -- I have already exchanged the Infocast for a different one, so I am now up and running.
It's just odd that Best Buy sold it to me as if it was brand new.

It is my understanding that not only does the previous user have to factory restore the unit, they also have to remove the Infocast from the account that they created on the website. It sounds like the previous owner only got it half right. ![]()

That's very interesting that part of the "refurb" process (and I lose that term extremely loosely) at Best Buy doesn't clear that out as part of the process of getting that back on the shelf to sell. They would save more money in the long run if they did this correctly.

Just brought home from Best Buy an Infocast 8" that has a previous registration. I was told by Insignia telephone support (no waiting, very knowledgeable, and polite) that the Best Buy store has the ability to reset the unit. What an interesting pain in the rear. It can't be too difficult to remove a previous registration if a Best Buy employee can do it. Why in heaven's name won't Insignia tell how to do it. Are they going to cite security issues on a $99 disposable entertainment media display?
