bought for a gift, fully charged, set-up my nephew's account, installed all the apps, no issues until ...
After everything was updated and apps installed, I tested a few apps. After, I returned to the main desktop screen, started to add icons to the desktop. I left the tablet sit for a short period of time and then attempted to wake it up, but it would not give me a screen.
I tried combinations of the volume button and power, and suddenly heard a beep, let it sit for a minute, then tried the power button again, waited, and it showed up.
Since the first time it happened, its happened 4 more times, and now is the point that I have to hold the power button down until it turns off, and then on again.
One of the things I thought it could be was the Auto Brightness. I know on my galaxy S5, if I take it off auto-bright, it goes to my lowest light level, and when I"m outside it basically causes the screen not to show.
The charge of the tablet is not an issue, over 80% from the first charge up I performed, and its been running for more htan 3 hours off and on doing updates, etc.
Since I've turned off the "adaptive brightness" setting, I don't think I've seen it happen again.
So in part, this is a report, in part looking to see if anyone else has had this issue.

Welcome to Community@ Insignia™!
If that continues to happen, I would recommend taking the tablet into Best Buy to the Geek Squad counter, with your reciept, for warranty evaluation.

Thank you Ryan, but I've tested several times since. The *only* time the screen wake-up problem occurs, is when the auto screen brightness option is selected.
Leaving the auto brightness option *off* I have no problem waking the laptop up at any time. But turn the option on, and sometime after the 2nd or 3rd screen off occurance, the screen itself will not wake up. Leave the option disabled, and haven't seen it return.
Its either a Lolipop 5.0.1 issue, or an issue with it on the Insignia tablet (any specialized drivers? or mods added that are different from an android reference design?)

I understand that you can turn that setting off and not experience the issue, but that is not how the tablet is supposed to operate. If you ever want to get it looked at though, you would need to take it into the store for warranty evaluation.

Thank you for the noted "Adaptive-brightness" work-around - it solved it for me too,
Purchased two of these 10.1" Tablets, same day, same store, and after installing / updating everything as stock - I had the same issue of not being able to wake them up after going into "Sleep" mode, (Lollipop 5.0.1) with no extra apps (stock factory app library pre-installed) - then I read here about the "Adaptive-brightness" under DISPLAY settings, un-checked it and - lo and behold, issue(s) resolved for both of the units (tablets), couldn't be happier, had become a bit worried, my nearest BestBuy store is 6hrs away..
Btw, the "Adaptive-brightness" when selected "On" does not provide a bright enough screen level anyways, so going "Manual" for that adjustment is the better (if a bit efforted) alternative.
Just wanted to add here my experience to the Community, confirm a work-around for a serious problem, and hope to get a flag raised on the certain issue with these particular Hardware / OS combination. Hope Insignia is listening.
(these tablet are actually made by "Tianshi Digi-Land", FW version: 1.0)

I literally just registered to post this message. I just want to thank you very much for this. I purchased this tablet 3 days ago on eBay from a seller. Started experiencing this problem with the tablet fully charged and barely any applications on it. I recalled that I turn on that adaptive brightness setting thinking that it would help save up the battery power. Turns out that that setting turned on causes this issue. As soon as I turn that setting off, I no longer have the issue with the power button. Thank you very much for that work around.
