Thanhks for the sympathy - I figured I wasn't the only one. I have had the same issues previously - with the sudden stream dropping. I can live with that - it's kind of the nature of the beast. Unfortunately for me, I can't reliably receive any of the major market AM radio stations where I live - not even on HD FM stations (which I also tried). I needed something else, so I bought an Internet radio from VTech and it worked brilliantly for a while. Then, for no apparent reason, all the clear-channel stations suddenly disappeared and VTech support had no idea why. I contacted clear-channel about this and they claimed that they don't support the VTech radio at all and had no clue how I was EVER listening to clear-channel stations on it! At that point, they recommended the Chumby (a supported device) but none of those were available at the time (backordered) so I discovered the INFOCAST devices at my local BB. I bought the 8" version first, only to bring it home and learn that it doesn't even have iheart radio on it. So, I returned that and got the 3.5" version. That is what I have now and I love it. I was just very irritated when this happened because - mostly based on my history with this mess - I figured clear-channel changed the rules again and that a simple system update turned my Infocast into a doorstop.
FWIW, clear-channel claim that they have to keep their streams under control because of copyright issues and that they are not permitted to allow their programming out of the USA. I asked them what they did about DX-ers listening to their terrestrial broadcasts deep in South America and Canada. They had no answer. The whole thing reeks of control issues to me, and points to what I think will ultimately be pay radio. That's sad.
