1080p / 120hz TV motion blur & not supporting PS3 24hz output

Insignia Advanced 32" class 1080p / 120hz LCD

HDTV

Model: NS-L32X-10A

Greetings. I hope that someone can help me with my problems with the above TV.

I have been trying to get 24fps playback to work properly on my television ever since I got it over a month ago. Every time I switch the DCM setting on (low, medium, or high) while watching a blu ray movie from my Playstation 3 the motion of people on screen is very awkward. I have tried it with several different movies and always get the same result. I have even tried changing various settings and choosing different presets to no avail.

* I realize the TV isn't a plasma so some blur is inevitable, but is there a way to manipulate my TV settings in order to get the smoothest motion possible on screen?

I have also recenty discovered something troubling with my PS3 settings...

My 120gb PS3 is hooked up via an HDMI cable to my Insignia television. When I go under settings for the PS3 and set "BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI)" to "On" the screen goes black for several seconds and then a small gray square appears on the screen that says "not supported". I have tried this with several different blu ray discs in the player.

How can the 24hz signal not be supported if my TV is 120hz?

* Do I need to change some of the settings on my PS3 and / or TV in order to support the 24fps signal?

Needless to say, this is very frustrating. Thank you in advance to anyone who can offer some support.

Re: 1080p / 120hz TV motion blur & not supporting PS3 24hz output

Hello PrestonXI,

Welcome to Community@Inisgnia™!

120hz TVs with motion enhancers (DCM) on is going to take a 1080p24 signal and display each frame 5 times, however instead of just displaying the image as encoded it is going to try to interpolate where the image will be at in between frames, giving a smoothness look. That's why if you are sending a 24p signal, the TV has to be set to display to show the native 1080p24 signal (this is having motion settings set to off). So technically if DCM is set off, this TV is compatible with 24p images since it the st frame will be repeated 5x (24 x 5 = 120).

My advise is to try setting your PS3 to 24p and be sure that the player is in fact sending 24p and not doing an upscale to 30p, then connect the TV with the HDMI, or press the input button repeatedly, to check that both devices are sharing the correct information and that should do it.

Thank you,

Re: 1080p / 120hz TV motion blur & not supporting PS3 24hz output

so to use the 24fps mode on your Blu-ray you have to turn off DCM?
