32" LCD TV (NS-L32Q-10A) - Closed Caption issue

Hey there,

The problem I'm having is with the closed caption in Component mode (the component being a Time Warner Cable TV box - it's a Motorola, if that matters at all). It just won't turn off!

When I press the CCD button a "forbidden" sign appears, much like this one:

The Closed Caption option in the Settings Menu is light gray and cannot be selected.

How do I turn the CC off? :smileysad:

The CC is almost certainly being sent by the cable box rather than generated by the TV since you are using a component connection.

Without knowing the model number of your cable box I can't be certain, but for many Motorola boxes you need to do something like:

. With the cable box connected to the TV and both switched on...

. Switch OFF the cable box

. Immediately press the MENU button on the front of the cable box

. Use the cable remote or panel cursor keys to select the CC option and disable it

Thanks, Steve. I actually googled it a couple of hours ago and found that exact solution on some website and was able to disable (hah!) the CC through the box's menu.

Thanks again!

If you're using a Motorola cable box then try following the instructions in post #2 except enable rather than disable CC in the last step.

Thanks Steve.  I was actually hoping to control the cc function via the tv rather than through the cable box.  My cable box does not offer the cc function while volume is muted.

If you're connecting via hdmi or component then I think you're out of luck.

The TV when connected to a cable box just acts like a monitor. The 'brain' for functions such as Closed Captioning lies with the cable box. Hence, you will need to control this via the cable set top box!
