Hey there,
The problem I'm having is with the closed caption in Component mode (the component being a Time Warner Cable TV box - it's a Motorola, if that matters at all). It just won't turn off!
When I press the CCD button a "forbidden" sign appears, much like this one:

The Closed Caption option in the Settings Menu is light gray and cannot be selected.
How do I turn the CC off? ![]()

The CC is almost certainly being sent by the cable box rather than generated by the TV since you are using a component connection.
Without knowing the model number of your cable box I can't be certain, but for many Motorola boxes you need to do something like:
. With the cable box connected to the TV and both switched on...
. Switch OFF the cable box
. Immediately press the MENU button on the front of the cable box
. Use the cable remote or panel cursor keys to select the CC option and disable it

Thanks, Steve. I actually googled it a couple of hours ago and found that exact solution on some website and was able to disable (hah!) the CC through the box's menu.
Thanks again!

If you're using a Motorola cable box then try following the instructions in post #2 except enable rather than disable CC in the last step.

If you're connecting via hdmi or component then I think you're out of luck.
