50" Insignia tv has sound but no picture

Hi,

I have an insignia 50" tv. It has sound, but no picture.  I noticed that it had a kind of red haze when you would turn the tv off.  The tv was working in the morning as my son was playing xbox.  Whe I came home in the afternoon, it would click to turn on, red light would flash, but no picture.  The screen did kind of dimly flash when I powered it on, had sound but that's it.  Do you think this is a lamp issue? If so, where can I get the part?

Re: 50" Insignia tv has sound but no picture

Modern TVs (or at least, Insignias) don't use separate lamps. The lighting element is built right into the panel unit.

If you try hitting the "Menu" button, do you see anything come up? Or no text at all? What about if you try switching inputs?

If the menu and/or input selector comes up, that means it's not necessarily a problem with the set. it could be a problem with whatever you've got hooked up to the TV. If you've got something, like a blu-ray player, hooked up via HDMI, try power cycling both the TV and the device. Unplug them or shut off the power strip, unplug and reseat the HDMI cable at both ends, then plug back in and turn on again. Loss of picture while sound continues is a relatively common occurrence with HDMI. I can't tell you how many times I was able to magically solve people's problems that way over the phone.

But if you don't see anything come up on the screen at all, then it's likely it is indeed a problem with the set. Try power cycling it anyway, just in case, Possibly even leave it unplugged overnight. If that doesn't work, you may need to have it serviced.

If it's a 50" TV and you bought it new from Best Buy, then if it's still under warranty or protection plan, in-home service should be covered; call the Insignia support line. Have your receipt handy and call the Insignia 800 number from the web site to set up service. If you don't have your receipt, they might still be able to look it up in their computers, especially if you still have the same credit card you used to buy it.

Re: 50" Insignia tv has sound but no picture

P.S. If it is broken but not still under warranty, unfortunately the odds are that it's not going to be economically feasible to repair. If it is a problem with the LCD panel, it would literally cost you more to get a replacement panel than it would be to buy a new TV. In that case, the best you could do would be to take it in to Best Buy and have them recycle it for you. They would do that at no charge.

Re: 50" Insignia tv has sound but no picture

I am also having issues with my 50 in LCD TV, it is model # NS-50L240A13. The tv is just over 1 ½ yrs old, which I believe is just outside the warranty since the product is only backed up for 1 yr. The TV just suddenly went black but I could still hear the sound. When I hit menu, I don’t see anything. When it comes on it is just a dark glow. Any ideas what it could be and is it possible to fix on your own?

Hello CLYDE3313,

Welcome to Community@ Insignia™!

When the tv first turns on, does it show an Insignia Logo? If you shine a bright light on the tv screen, can you see any imagery? If it's not showing the menu, it will most likely be a repair required issue. As to what part may be necessary to replace, that would unfortunately be a question for Geek Squad as they handle all repairs for us, and have access to the Service Manuals. The downside is they normally will not give any info without reviewing the TV themselves.

Hello josef95,

Thank you for responding!

When the screen blacked out, did it then come back up from a different source, or can you pull up the TV menu and see it on screen?

Hello josef95,

Thank you for responding!

What is the Model # for your TV? It should start with a NS-.
