Connecting Wii to NS-L46X-10A

We just purchased a new Insignia NS-L46X-10A TV. Everything seems to work well except when we try to connect our Nintendo Wii. We have tried connecting it to the AV2 input on the side of the TV, running with game mode "on", and connected to AV1 input on the back with DCM "off". In both cases we're still noticing lag between the game and the TV. What else can we try?

Any ideas, or is this hopeless?

Re: Connecting Wii to NS-L46X-10A

Hello LocustDad,

Welcome to Community@Inisgnia™!

Game lag usually occurs due to upscaling being done by the TV or game console. If the connections are done that way, and the DCM is off, then the upscaling must be done on the console end. My advise is to contact Nintendo on how to setup the device so the games are plated at it's original resolution.

Thank you,

Re: Connecting Wii to NS-L46X-10A

OK - I think we solved own problem, so here's the solution in case it can help someone else. There are three steps.

1. Buy a component video cable for the Wii. We connected this to the "Component 2" input on the NS-L46X-10A. Once the component cable is connected to the Wii, an option appears on the Wii setup menu (Wii Options - Wii Settings - Screen - TV Resolution) for "EDTV or HDTV". Select this option.

2. Make sure the TV's "Game Mode" is turned on, which turns off the DCM. It also seems to help if all the other picture enhancement options under "Advanced Video" - Noise Reduction, Advanced Contrast & Advanced Light Control - are turned off.

Steps 1 and 2 take care of the video lag.

3. Run the audio connections from the Wii to an external amplifier instead of to the TV. This takes care of the audio lag.

My 17-year-old son confirms that everything works well now, and he's the Wii expert at our house!

:smileyhappy:

Re: Connecting Wii to NS-L46X-10A

i just turned off DCM on my 46'' 120hz insignia and Guitar Hero with the Wii is now back in sync. Mine is hooked up with the cables it came with to av2 . I use the Optical out of the TV to my HD reciever so the audio goes though the HD reciever. And that seems to work fine. but i think i will upgrade to the componet cables like you did for the WII so i can use the HDTV-EDTV settings

Re: Connecting Wii to NS-L46X-10A

I'm posting this just in case anyone else happens to fight with this for a while and the above steps didn't work right away.

If putting the TV into game mode didn't work, or only improved the problem a little bit, download the latest firmware for the NS-L46X-10A TV (September 2010 as of this posting).  It will clear the delay problem right up when you turn on Game Mode and attempt to play the Wii.
