Direct TV basic box provides rough picture

I have an Insignia NS 32E570A11, 32 ", LCD/LED that I just purchased.  I want to have a Direct TV basic receiver (480p)  connected via the component terminals. I have a Dish TV receiver already connected via the cable jack.  When the Direct TV receiver is connected via the component jacks, the picture is grainy with only partial colorization. I've tried various combinations of the cables in the jacks without success. The Direct TV receiver picture is fine when connected via the cable input.  I haven't tried the Dish TV receiver (another basic model) in the component jacks but I would assume that I would get the same results.  Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: Direct TV basic box provides rough picture

Hello paulmartin200,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

Component is an HD connection that will allow up to 1080i. With HDTV sometimes, when the input quality is not good enough, it will really make grainy images, but does not mean that there are connection problems.

The most important thing will be to determine whether this is an image quality related issue or a defective device. Please try the following:

1- The first step to take will be to try the box on another TV (using the component output) and testing the TVs component input with another device (such as a DVD player). If, any of the devices (TV or box) show the same behavior when connecting it to that other device, we will be able to determine on which side the issue lies.

On the TV's end, check, when connecting the TV to that other device, if you are able to get more output resolution (720p would be more than enough).   If the image does improve, then there 100% an image quality problem that will be solved by getting an HD box from DirecTV.

2 -Reset both devices (TV and Box) back to factory defaults (on the TV you will find that option on the SETUP menu), since sometimes a bad color combination will cause poor image quality.

3- On the TV turn DCM and all image enhancements off

4- Try a different set of cables (Rocketfish has some with gold-platted connectors that will provide outstanding connection).

If after all this, you happen to find this is a TV defect, please contact our Support Line so we can assist you on getting service for it.

If it was useful, and you liked it, Kudo it!
