Is it possible to upgrade it using firmware from newer, similar model NS-42L780A12 and thus be able to watch pictures (maybe movies) through usb port ?
A firmware update is available for your TV, but it does not enable the USB port for additional functionality. You should never attempt to update your TV with another model's firmware.
