Intermittent the channel will not go up or down

Intermittent the channel will not go up or down either with remote or on set, also with remote direct to already known scanned channels they cannot be accessed either. All that can be done is turn off set and back on and then channels can be changed.

Intermittent the sound is still there but no picture. If you go up or down 1 channel and then go back to the same channel that had the sound but no picture, then the sound and picture are there again.

I sent it in for within the two year warranty and got it back about 2 weeks ago. I offered to have my antenna and cable and all sent so that they could try to see the problem, but being that they did not accept other than the TV then I have only that they said the main board was change.

I did give this additional information that I felt was useful. It is that the TV when having a few very weak scanned digital channels and a majority of channels that are 75 to 100 percent on the strength meter and you are changing channels going though the weak channels it will happen after that. Either you get stuck and can’t change the channel or the picture is gone but only sound is present.

I understand that weak signals are a problem to view, I don’t have a problem with that, just I think any TV should be able to deal with them such you do not get stuck on a channel with a strong signal and also picture does not disappear on channels with strong signal.

What do you know about this?

I intend to get the 30 day after even end of warranty since I’m told a warranty after last repair you get and additional courtesy 30 days extra incase the problem was not fixed right. All I know is that they say the main board was changed and nothing about verifying the problem. I expect that if it is too labor intensive to get the conditions of the set when it fails, then you just change part as best guess?

I also been told to try using cable TV, but I see that as an added expense and felt that purchase at Best Buy for the TV was to fulfill the purpose to get over the airwaves antenna TV and would expect it can do this.

Is there a design flaw?

Re: Intermittent the channel will not go up or down

These are the workarounds that I have found on my NS-LDVD19Q-10A that are intermittent.

Limit 100 word error came up on trying to post first so I cut out what I originally wrote and missed this sentence above.

MODEL NS-LDVD19Q-10A .......  an SERIAL 09H25A1022A ........an REVISION 09H25-REV-B

John....THANKS for attending to this post so quickly!    Originally called Insignia direct for case and then went to Best Buy as the Insignia email said to do,

I had been told my warranty had expired past two weeks of the two year warranty when I originally called. This is a second Insignia TV purchase purchase at best buy a different set and they got me thinking I had no warranty left. I got an email that told me to bring my set in and the warranty had not expired and someone at Insignia found that out and subsequently told me to bring it to Best Buy. I had around a week’s time before the email arrived since the serial number was not observed and or the model number exactly. This one has the DVD player in it as the first purchase I no longer own does not. I used up a week of warranty not being able to bring it in...Just to let you know that exact facts.

Thanks again John

Re: Intermittent the channel will not go up or down

Re: Intermittent the channel will not go up or down also at other times Intermittent no picture just sound

Happened today and I checked further while it was stuck in this no picture mode.

I was on channel 4.1 and at a commercial I went around the channels. Passing channel 65.1, 65.2, an 65.3 I remember that there was no picture and did not stay long just went onto next channel which is back to 4.1 for my last scan of channels it had available to attain in the memory of the TV.

Then when arriving at channel 4.1 all there was is sound no picture. I check the signal strength and it was at 50 percent and not wavering any.

I also decided to do a check if somehow it got changed to sound only mode. It was not. I decided to try setting for sound only mode and then have it take effect (even though I really had no sound anyway as the problem) and when it took effect I noticed something more. There was actually a very dark black screen lie when the set is off totally and or unplugged off. Then when I resumed back to sound only back to off, I saw that the screen had no picture to see, but there was a dark bluish haze around the edges of the screen.

Additionally I notice that the one analog channel I get "6" was coming in with sound an also picture, but no digital channels had any picture. The digital channels had only sound and the hazy bluish color dim at the edge of the screen.

Then I powered off the set and back on and all was OK again.

This problem happened twice within 25 minutes.

Maybe that additional information help, don't know?

Re: Intermittent the channel will not go up or down and

Re: Intermittent the channel will not go up or down also at other times Intermittent no picture just sound

From my last post below...cut and pasted:

"The digital channels had only sound and the hazy bluish color dim at the edge of the screen."

I just remembered that the Sound Only Mode should in fact have a more totally black screen because as I know the way these flat screen TV work is that there is a back light. It is turned off when in that mode. I was able to set the Sound Only Mode to "ON" and then to "OFF" but the set still just stayed with the backlight on and had only bluish haze around the edges of the screen without any picture to be seen.

What happened when the set goes into a not normal mode an fails to provide a picture and only has sound, the back light is still on. Therefore you this bluish tint hazy around the edge of the screen.

When in this not normal failure mode, the tuner must have gotten messed up trying to pickup digital TV signal and so it has no picture. However these screens works in how they take a back light and make a picture, the screen or the tuner that drives the screen is out of wack and just shows a bluish haze at the sides of the screen. Only turning off the set and back on releases it from being all messed up that way.

The other failure also intermittent where it will not go up or down channel when and the screen is looking the same bluish haze has me thinking yes the tuner is common to both failures...but I'm no expert....just getting data for what I hope can have my set fixed.

What happens if you take a TV to BestBuy a second time after last in warranty repair was in effect an brought in for repair, then returned to customer but then it has ended since and the set was not fixed right. What I am saying is that you had not actually seen the problem as far as I know as there is no information given, only that a main board was replaced? I would like to know is the tuner on the main board. If it is not what will they change even though they did not see the problem last time it was in. Just change another board on best guess? Is there a charge...I was told that I have 30 days grace period since I got it back if not repaired right. What after that as well?

What answers do you have?

Thanks

Re: Intermittent the channel will not go up or down and

No need for further action I got a different TV replacement as the BestBuy store felt that sending it out again was not what they wanted for me to do.

I had asked that GeekSquad take the Mpeg Video's I took of the failure as it happened to send along with the set for repair a second time, but they said they have no way of doing this. I said I can have it on a usb stick. Nope. Then with asking a supervisor, it was instead just a TV swap.

Thanks
