Re: L42Q120-10A 42" TV shuts off at random times

Here is an update on my issue I have the same TV as you.Since i have shut off DCM for when i use my xbox the tv has not shut off. I played today for 2hr and yestrday for 3hrs just to test to see if it made a difference so far it has not shut off it used to shut off after 30min or so. So maybe DCM is not compatiable with the component input. Either way it should be off for gaming anyway.

I wish a Insignia Tech would chime in on this to see if this is an know issue. Either way i will update as time goes on to see if that fixed it.

Re: L42Q120-10A 42" TV shuts off at random times

I have the same TV, same issue, although mine I have noticed only using component xbox 360. I was using a component with my dvd player and cable box and they never shut off, but for some reason the 360 does (1080p mode only, 720 never had problems), and this was with DCM off. Also the input auto detect sometimes works and sometimes does not. I love the tv, but I want justice!! I already took one of these TV's back to best buy and exchange it just in case it was a defect, and then I decided to come here, and low and behold, everyone has the same problem.

Re: L42Q120-10A 42" TV shuts off at random times

Hey, thanks for the advice, but turning DCM off does not help. Alas, I'm afraid unless an Insignia tech can get on this board sometime soon with some answers, I'm gonna take the TV back. I went with an off brand for my first LCD TV, Westinghouse (don't ever get their products), and I swore I would never do it again... It seems that going with Insignia is proving my theory. The extra $200 for an error free TV will be worth it for me.

Re: L42Q120-10A 42" TV shuts off at random times

I've since exchanged my TV for another just like it & (surprise!) it has shut off twice in the few days I've had it.  I don't have any gaming equipment hooked up to the set, so that can't be the problem.  We did research on the TV (Consumer Reports) before the purchase - it got great ratings, but it seems this is a common problem.  I have to say I'm also disappointed the Insignia techs haven't come up with a real solution to what is obviously a fairly common problem.

Insignia Tech Please respond to this!

Update: Played again for 3 hrs and no shut off with DCM OFF and Xbox set to 1080p. Seems to be only the componet inputs with these problems so I thinks somthing should be done about this  some kind of recall or update to slove this problem,

Re: L42Q120-10A 42" TV shuts off at random times

Hey 92notch,

That's good that DCM is working for you... unfortunately, it's not helping my problem.  As far as an Insignia tech getting on here, it's obvious what is happening:

They're very aware of the problem and there is no software update, tech house-call, or whatever, to fix it... it is a hardware problem.  So now, they have to weigh the cost of a recall or sending out technicians versus the percentage of us who hook up an xbox via component and play at 1080p returning the TV's to the store. (Does this problem happen with, say, an upsampling DVD or blu ray player hooked up via compenent?).

Anyway, sorry to say, but we are probably going to lose this battle.  Looks like I'm going to Walmart versus Best Buy and I'll get a Vizio for the same price range.  Sucks.  Pretty much everything else about this TV is perfect.

Re: L42Q120-10A 42" TV shuts off at random times

It looks like your right they are aware of the problem and are weighing the cost and its not cost effective for them to fix it.

But from other posts that i have seen it has happened with DVD/BD players hooked up Via Component as well. So i think it should be something that they look into because its not just gamers that are affected its also people who watch DVD's and Blu-Ray's through Component. And the only useable inputs would be HDMI and that to me is stupid then that means that Component is useless on this TV then. So i think they should STEP up and take care of their customers .

So Insignia TECHS Please Look into this!

My shut-off problem occurs when just watching tv (through AT&T Uverse box).  I'm not even running games.

are you hooked up through hdmi or component?

INSIGNIA TECHS PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS! THESE TVS SHOULD BE RECALLED IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM!
