Menu Flashing Uncontrollably, Model # NS-39D240A13

The menu screen on my LCD TV  Model # NS-39D240A13 comes on and flashes uncontrollably. This happens constantly with no imput from the remote or side of the TV, as if a possessed remote is mashing all the buttons. I bought it last Black Friday on BestBuy online. The problems started a few months ago (I've been away almost all summer)

- The menu or imput select menu will come on and scroll uncontrollably even when nothing is even plugged in to the TV. It does it when my Wii, PS2 and HDMI cables are plugged in to it as well. There is no cable service attached to the TV.

- The flashing is constant but not consistent. Some times it will stop for a minute or two and then start again. It flashes in random intervals and for random amounts of time.

- I have removed the batteries from the remote that came with the TV. I have replaced the batteries in the remote that came with the TV. I have tried programming 2 universal remotes and even my tablet to work with the TV. None of this stopped the menu flashing.

- I plugged it directly in to the wall. I plugged it into a different power strip. I plugged it in to the wall in a different room. I left it unplugged for a week. Still, nothing helped.

- The imput buttons on the side of the TV do not do what they're suppose to do. The buttons on the remote do work, but exiting the flashing menu doesn't matter, it just comes back up again and again.

- I spoke with a priest, who said spiritual possession was possible, but unlikely. I consulted a physician, who said it was highly improbable that my body was emitting incredible amounts of infrared radiation, conflicting with the remote signal. I consulted NOAA who reported no strange atmospheric anomalies in my area. I consulted the NSA who could neither confirm nor deny any type of devices or electronic monitoring which could be interfering with my television.

The TV was manufactured in "September, 2012", "MFD 12/27X". It has never been dropped, overheated, got wet or any other physical damage.

Hello qwertyhelp,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

First, I applaud your thoroghness in troubleshooting. Second, I'm gratified to read that your consultations with specialists did not reveal spiritual, physiological, meteorological, or governmental influence on your TV. Alas, with everything you attempted, you have revealed that your TV is in need of repairs. To obtain warranty service, please carry the TV in to the place of purchase along with your original receipt. I regret that I don't have better news and the inconvenience to you.

I'm trusting you John. I just dropped it off at Best Buy. I told them John said to do so and gave them a sugggestive wink. Smiley Wink

I don't think they know you at that particular Best Buy.

Re: Menu Flashing Uncontrollably, Model # NS-39D240A13

Very interesting...

I have 4 insinia tv's, and I am happy with all but one of them...

For my own Christmas present to me I bought a NS-24E340A13 for my bedroom.

After some 6 months of faithful service I too started getting the flashing menu screen, it would ignore the side buttons, respond to the remote, beifly exiting the menu only to have it pop back up again...

Yeah, yeah, pulled the batteries, power cycled, etc. I found that by leaving the TV on for several days at a time it would finnaly stabilize...

All was good, untill it then started putting the input menu up for me to enjoy... Yippie... Well at least it was smaller than the menu screen, but still annoying...

Here is what I find interesting... My tv was manufactured in October 2012...  Hmmmm......

Too me at least it would apper that they got a bad run of main boards somewhere in the mid year of 2012, as two of my other tv's were manufactured a year or so before that, and my last was manufactured after that date, and none of them are affected by this problem.

I understand that the tech guy that replies on this board can hardley go and suggest thet we as consumers go and open up our tv's and replace the main boards... Yet at the same time, if there is in fact a problem with main boards manufactured between this date and that date, well I would expect them to at the very least issue a statement saying that there "May be an issue with the main board", ya know, for those of us that simply don't want to trot along back to the store, send it off for how many weeks, and hope it comes back in one piece.

I for one will be buying a main board and putting it back in my tv (yep, already removed the old one, to check for bad solder joints and such...)

Ta Da!

So I put in my new main board and Viola'... No more flashing Menu Screen! Yay!

One thing though, I first used the "official" parts store that the insignia help line directed me too, I bought the main board that they said would fit my NS24E340A13... Yeah, when the little itty bitty box showed up I knew something was wrong... Fist off, no ani-static bag to protect it, second, not the right main board... The site they send you too (something like shop.parts.com ) Does Not Have any pictures on it... Not a good way to buy parts. I did a quick search with the part number off the main board and found plenty of sites that do post pics. Anyway, three days later I got my new board, popped it in, fired it up, and Presto!

Still love my Insignia tv's...

Re: Menu Flashing Uncontrollably, Model # NS-39D240A13

So I repair TVs and every Insignia NS-39D240A13 has the flashing colors problem or will have. It seems that Insignia has abandoned everyone that bought this model. There is absolutly no way to fix it without a firmware update. Has Insignia ever corrected the firmware to fix this problem? If so I would like to have the file to flash to a new EEPROM IC.

Is there a Insignia Rep that has a solution for this problem?
