still not having much luck getting 5.1 through the TV. i tried the things you mentioned and all settings seemed like they were already set. (for my cable box, i only had 'dolby digital' as an option, i couldn't set 5.1 specifically)
only thing that has changed is that the TV audio is now set to RAW (originally it was greyed out to PCM as default). this was changed because i was reading the link in regards to 'no sound on the 360'
http://community.insigniaproducts.com/t5/Televisio
i followed the advice on there and was able to change my 360 sound to RAW - for once this setting was not greyed out!! However, my 360 still won't put out 5.1. Anyways, once switching back to my TV (HDMI input), the digital audio/SPDIF was still set to RAW, but greyed out again. Frustrating!

I don't want to bring you down, but I returned mine after 4 days, and got a Vizio. And it just worked. All I needed to do was set the TV to RAW.

Hi, I'm also having audio problems via HDMI with the NS-46L550A11. Originally, I had a problem with my PS3 audio through HDMI, but was able to resolve it. In the PS3 sound settings menu, I went into Audio Output Settings, selected HDMI, selected Manual, then unchecked the Dolby Digital 5.1 box. If there is a way to keep that box checked and still get PS3 audio, I would love it so please feel free to offer a suggestion if there is one.
Anyway, I had a Dish Network HD receiver installed today and am experiencing a similar problem. When connected via HDMI, I get no audio from the HD channels. However, when connected with component cables, the HD audio and video work fine. I can live with component cables if necessary, but my preference would be to connect via HDMI in order to minimize the number of cables between the TV and devices. Is there any way to rectify this problem? The receiver model is VIP 211. When I access the receiver's menu, I go to System Setup, then Dolby Digital. Once there, I get two lists, side by side. The first list contains three options: Dolby Digital/PCM (selected by default), Dolby Digital only, and PCM only. The second list contains two options: Line Mode and RF Mode (selected by default). In the TV's audio menu, under Digital Audio/SPDIF, PCM is selected as opposed to RAW. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hello muchairman,
Welcome to Community@Insignia™!
First of all, you will need to install the updated firmware for this TV (Enables pass-through of original digital audio sound). Here you will find instructions on how to do it.
If you are using a receiver, then, just by selecting RAW on the TV you will be able to hear sound on it. If, on the other hand, you are not, and want to hear TV speakers, you will need to set on your box, PCM as the desired output and RF Mode, this will provide stereo sound (since your TV only has 2 speakers).
Let me know if it worked.
If it was useful, and you liked it, Kudo it!
Thank you,
Guille

Thank you, Guille, the firmware update seems to have solved my issue, both with the HD receiver and PS3. I applied the update, set the audio settings on both devices back to default, and am now getting sound via HDMI. Thank you very much for your help!

Wait - there's a firmware update? Is this going to solve our problems on this thread?

No Sound HDMI & HD receiver,
OK I recently purchased an Insignia NS-32L550A11 and upraded my DishNetwork Receiver to a ViP622 so I could enjoy HD programming on my new HDTV.
I was very displeased when I went to use the HD Channels; NO SOUND!
The technician was like maybe there is a firmware upgrade, etc... to fix the issue ans suggested that use the component connections, well that was not acceptable.
SO FOR ALL OF YOU THIS IS WHAT WORKED FROM ME TO GET HDMI WORKING ON HD CHANNELS!
