NS-L46X-10A issues...

Hello,

I put this in the television category cuz i think it may belong here.

My parents recently got a package from BestBuy for the NS-L46X-10A 46" 1080p TV and the NS-WBRDVD blu-ray player with wifi.

everything seemed to be going ok for a few weeks, but now all of a sudden the blu-ray is not communicating with the tv over HDMI.  we will get the insignia startup screen but as soon as the player menu (settings and connected) loads it cuts out.  We have it hooked up with component cables now, but my parents really want the 1080p.

we had issues with the cable box too, and that was replaced and now its working ok, but can't get the blu-ray working right.  the geek squad has been out 3 times and replaced the board in the tv 2 times.  they can't seem to figure it out.

i took the blu-ray player to my house and tested it on my tv (toshiba) via hdmi and it worked just fine using the same cable as my parents.  heck we even tried a totally new hdmi cable and it is still not working.

i updated the firmware for the both TV and Blu-Ray and still have no luck using it over hdmi.

PLEEEEASE HELLLLP, i can't figure it out....

Thanks,

Dan

Hello Dan,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

Your thorough troubleshooting has revealed that the most likely source of the problem is your parents' TV.  My recommendation would be to schedule Geek Squad to visit and repair the HDMI issue.

Re: NS-L46X-10A issues...

John,

Thank you for your reply, however Geek Squad has been out 3 times, and replaced the "board" 2 times.

The cable box is sending over HDMI to the TV, and seemss to work fine.

We've tried the blu-ray player in every possible input, and it does not work in any of the HDMI slots.  It is soooo weird because like i said previously, I took it to my house, and tried on my TV and it worked fine.

Geek Squad has said that they cannot explain why it is not working.

I told my parents to see if they would swap the Blu-Ray player.

My dad is so fed up he wants to just buy a new Blu-Ray player, i told him NO... I am not convinced it is a problem with the Blu-Ray player (as it works on my TV).  But the TV seems to work fine with the cable box, so I have no idea what to tell them.

I think at this point the Geek Squad bill to Best Buy is probably well over the price of the TV.  I almost feel they should have replaced the TV and Blu-Ray from the begining.

What do you suggest?

Re: NS-L46X-10A issues...

Hello Dan,

If you are able to see the Insignia welcome screen, then all the connections seems to be OK (the only problem may be the HDMI cable that, if too thin, may not be able to carry 1080p information). If the image is lost once the movie begins, then, this will be related to the Movie settings on the player.

Try the following: on the BR player, access the Settings Menu and select  Display. Once there check the following:

- HDMI preferred format: Set it to 1080p (you may try first 720p just to see if you get an image)

- Resolution: 1080p (HDMI) (NOT AUTO)

- Film mode (1080p 24): OFF

If you set the player this way there should be an image. You may try , if the above settings did not work, resetting the player to factory defaults (you will find the option at System menu), and they setting them again manually.

Let me know the results or any change!

Re: NS-L46X-10A issues...

Gonza,

I was able to get it working.

First I tried the settings that you suggested.  That did not work.  I tried resetting everything to default.  That did not work.

I just happened to have an extra HDMI cable.  I plugged it in and WALLLAH!

How does this make any sense?  The original cable worked fine at my house, but did not work at my parents house... Weird...

Thank you for your assistance!

Re: NS-L46X-10A issues...

Hello Dan,

It totally does. Some cables are not able to handle all the information sent and received through HDMI, that's why it's always advisable to get the best cable possible since others may get caught short.
