I was experiencing some latency in Game Mode (not a huge amount, but enough which causes a problem for high paced games).
The insignia web site offers a firmware update which offers to improve game mode latency. I read the directions and performed the upgrade per the insignia web site.
Since the update my TV is has no volume control. The TV volume stuck on full blast and the volume control does nothing. When I attempt to turn it down the OSD says that its turning down the volume, but the volume is not being changed.
I am able to bypass the sound and have it just on my receiver, but there is still a hissing coming form the speakers because it is turned up so loud. There is still no way to turn the speakers off while watching local HD.
Other things I noticed immediately after the upgrade:
- The TV takes about 30 seconds to turn on. It never used to do this.
- The refresh rate is messed up. I don't know how else to explain it. If there is any fast paced movement on the screen, things look like they are shaking around really bad.
- The game mode doesn't do anything any more. It says its turning on and off, but there is no change in color or latency like before. The latency is actually pretty low now on component input, but for some reason on the RCA inputs there is a huge amount of latency which is really annoying just to watch cable.
- The power light flashes red for about 5 seconds when you turn it off.
I have tried reapplying the firmware update many times and still no change.
Does anyone know where I can get an older or different firmware to try out? Insignia support just transferred me to Geek Squad when they didn't have an answer on this problem. If this is a buggy firmware, it would seem like a waste of everyones time to have Best Buy send out a technician and spends lots of money and time to repair or replace my new TV.... especially if I try to apply this update on a replacement TV and the same thing happens again.
Thanks,
Stan.

I should also mention that I am using firmware A per the 4th digit on the number on the back of the TV. The file is called BBY_NS-L55X-10A_HW-1_SW-V1.05_USB_2ndPanel-AUO.ecc

I just experienced the EXACT SAME issues while trying to apply the update. Did this get resolved for you?

zarpman:
I feel your pain. Best Buy ended up sending a third party TV repair company . It took about week for them to get the part and I JUST got it fixed yesterday. To my surprise there is not much inside the TV. Just two not very big boards... one power supply board, and one main board.
They replaced the main board inside the TV and upon power up, the volume controls worked, but the OSD was blurry (like double image) with jaged edges. Previously I was playing with different versions to see what happens and that OSD blurry was one of the side effects. I told the tech about this experience. The technician agreed that this "just could work"... and we downloaded and tried A firmware per my serial number and still blurry, then tried B firmware and IT WORKED!! So my guess is that the 4th digit of your serial number has less to do with the actual main board, but possibly what type of LCD it is interfaced to.
Now its back to the way it was before my firmware update fiasco. The picture looks great again and all the side effects I originally mentioned are gone... however, I STILL HAVE a noticeable amount of latency, even in game mode. I also noticed the web site now offers a version C of the firmware which wasn’t there last week and has removed the installation instructions which were previously there. I'm considering trying the version C to see if I can get rid of my latency, but I'm afraid to try it... what if it happens again??? My wife was pissed the first time... I'm not sure I could handle a second. ![]()
... meanwhile ... Its a pain to play video games and I'm back to square one.
The most frustrating part about all of this is if you call Insignia Support they don’t have any real technicians. Even the TV repair company commented on how hard it was to find the parts while still being unable to contact company technicians and being transferred to Geek Squad.
I hope Best Buy/Insignia (hopefully they read this) gets their act together one this.

Tech is supposed to be at my house tomorrow to diagnose the problem. I couldn't wait that long, so I went tinkering:
I found an earlier version of the firmware to use and it corrected every problem BUT the audio issue. I then used the September firmware revision B and voila; everything is now working correctly. I haven't had a chance to check the latency on game mode yet, but my TV now works exactly as it did out of the box (which was JUST yesterday).
The firmware links on the support page are NOT labeled correctly, and there are no instructions to tell you how to use them. This needs fixed.

When you say "old firmware", do you mean A or an older version of B. If it was an older B, where did you find that? I still want to get rid of my latency issue and try C, but if it broke again, it would be cool to do what you did to put it back.

So after using my shiny new TV for a couple of weeks, I figured I would come BACK and see if the firmware fiasco had been fixed. Why could I have just left well-enough alone? ![]()
Seeing that there are now explicit instructions detailing whether to use firmware A, B, or C, I noticed that I am SUPPOSED to be using firmware C and not the tried and trusty B that has been keeping me happy. Figuring this would improve my picture even further, I jumped the gun. Now my refresh rate is horrible! High-speed stuffs (including sports and video games) are unwatchable/unplayable. This is both with Game Mode both off and on. Blarg.
Back to downgrading and upgrading I suppose.

Hello all,
Welcome to Community@Insignia™!
Each firmware is designed for the specific components of the different versions this TV has. You will find a detailed list with the "E" number and next to it the firmware you should download and install. Also, you will find at the same .pdf document a step by step guide on how to install.
Just access http://www.insigniaproducts.com/products/televisio
If you would like to provide me with the "E" number and the firmware versions you have installed with it's results I'll be more than happy to elevate this information to our Engineering team.
If it was useful, and you liked it, Kudo it!
Thank you,
Guille
