Re: NS-L55X-10A

John:

I have an NS-L46X-10A

I think I figured it out.  I manually deleted all the channels from the previous scans and then did a channel re-scan.  The lip sync problem went away.

Interestingly enough simply doing a rescan did not solve the sync problem (which has been happening for months).

Question, is there any way to turn on closed captioning for HDMI and Component inputs?  I can only see it with Composite.

Also, is there a way to move the picture and/or slightly expand the picture?  When I watch SD stations on my digital cable TV box via HDMI I'm seeing data in the vertical interval (top of the screen) as if the TV were in underscan mode.  I know other manufaturers like LG have a way to adjust the picture positioning.

I'm the Asst. Chief Engineer for Fox/CW here in Oklahoma City so if you have any solutions which are technical i nature I have no problems following instructions or navigating through a service menu.

Thanks.

Re: NS-L55X-10A

John:

I may have spoke too soon.  Turns out I was watching my cable TV box so the audio sync was fine.  When I went back to over-the-air ATSC the audio sync is still off.  It's only hapening on my channel (25.1) and I know this channel is working fine since I monitr it at work with a variety of different tuners and demodulators.

So back to my original question, is there any way to completely restore my NS-L46X-10A back to factory defaults?

Thanks.

Re: NS-L55X-10A

Hello Chris,

Have you tried the firmware update available for this TV?

http://www.insigniaproducts.com/products/televisions/NS-L55X-10A.html
Check on the Support Tab, you will find a guide on how to install it and below that the actual FW update (it's meant to solve issues with over the air channels with signal problems)

Regarding Closed Captions, they should be turned on or off from the device you are using as a sender (Cable Box, DVD, etc). So check on that device on how to do it. Keep in m mind that Digital Signal won't carry CC information as sent, so most provably you won't be able to use them through HDMI.

Gonza:

I used the "NS-L46X-10A" firmware upgrade and so far things good on my channel 25.1.   We'll see how things look tonight when we go into HD.

I'm still having a problem with data from the vertical interval showing up at the top of the screen when I use my Cox digital cable box via HDMI.  I do not see it when I view the box via Composite.

Is there any service menu option I can use to tweek the position of the screen to that I can either zoom in (expand) the picture slightly or raise the picture up a couple of pixels in order to force the vertical interval data off the top of the screen?

Thanks.

Re: NS-L55X-10A

Chris,

My advise regarding that data showing will be either to contact Cox to check this is not a problem with the box. On the TV's end, you can toggle overscan ON so that you will not see that area (actually that was what Overscan was created for). You will find the Overscan option at the Picture/Advanced Video menu.

Re: NS-L55X-10A

Gonza:

Talking to Cox is like talking to oil-covered sea turtles.  The guy who oversees the programmong of the Scientific Atlanta boxes for our region (I know him) is pretty clueless so the the boxes are all pretty much set to the original default programming from the factory.  We used the same boxes when I was with Time Warner cable in Texas and the features/functionality were much better than what Cox does with their boxs here.

I actually tried the overscan feature on the TV the day I bought the set (months ago) and it does work however, the overscan creates too much zoom and crops a lot of the picture.  The problem isn't bad during the day but at night you can really see the vertical interval signals flasing across the top of the screen.

For what it's worth, our LG 55" sets here at the TV station all have adjustments for the picture that allow you to micro zoom and move the screen by a single pixel at a time.  This might be a useful addition to future Insignia sets.  I had planned on purchasing Insignia units for our set but the vertical interval issue (which BestBuy ws clueless about and unwilling to help me with) were the determining factor why we went with LG for this project.

Oh, by the way,  I did figure out how to get the Cox box to display captioning so I can now see captioning via HDMI.

Thanks for your help on these issues.

Thanks for the feedback, I will let our Engineers know about this issues so they can be taken into account for future models! It's always good to try and add useful features we may have not think of!
