Same problem with me too. Same TV. Close to same age. I believe it to be the power board, but not sure. Of course it's just out of warranty! I will take matters into my own hands. Can't afford this headache in todays financial troubles.

Adam's wife here...
Same TV, same problem, approx 2 years old
Tried calling your product hotline & got the runaround - 4 different "techs" told me to unplug my TV & plug it into a different outlet, then hung up on me while "transferring" me to someone else.
Tried calling Geek Squad & got the runaround there. They don't deal with TVs in the store, so i got transferred to the Home Repair Dept but we're out of their area. And out of the service area for their contracted repair company. We're not in central Africa - just rural SE Kansas!!
We found a local TV repairman who is willing to work on it but he doesn't have a service manual, which makes proper testing next to impossible, he tells us.
Great.
WHY has this model not been recalled? It's clear that there is a major problem with at least one of the components.
And where can I or our TV repairman obtain a service manual so we can start to get this diagnosed & hopefully fixed this century?

Wow, I'm seriously amazed at the amount of responses since I posted mine just about a week ago. I can not belive the number of similar complaints and issues everyone is having with this television. All the feedback really got me thinking about some of the other electronics in my life and how long they have lasted.
Macbook Pro - 5 years old and works like the day I bought it.
Sony Stero receiver and Bose speakers - 4 years old and they work amazing.
Canon printer - 3 years old and not a single problem
Frigidaire - microwave 6 years old and has not skpped a beat
Insignia 50 television - 1.5 years old and kicks the bucket.
I feel like a victium of planned obselence with this TV. It amazes me that such a large electronic can have such a short life span. Hopefully Insigina will find it in them to correct this problem as it's obvious the amount of unsatisified customers is continuing to compound.

EXACTLY!!!
It feels (from the eerily similar length of time all our TVs lasted), to the total lack of interest in getting this problem fixed that Insignia has demonstrated, to the fact that all of us are experiencing the EXACT same problem with the EXACT same model of TV, tells me that either this is a deliberate implosion orchestrated by Insignia to make us all go out 1.5 - 2 years after spending $1300- $2000 on this POS to spend another $2K on something that should have lasted a hell of a lot longer. Or they have a component that is clearly defective but they don't want to issue a recall because it would cost the company money. Or maybe they just don't care.
What they appear to fail to realize is that not only will none of us ever buy another Insignia product as long as we live, but we will also let all our friends & relatives know about this company & the complete lack of disregard for either product quality &/or customer care they have, AND the majority of us will be leaving completely honest, obviously negative reviews on this product & the Insignia company as a whole on every single Insignia product review website, column & blog we can find.
They are not making for happy customers. At all. And every time I look over at my non-working TV, which has been dead now, for over a week, with no hope of repair any time soon (since the only TV tech willing & to come out & service it for us does not have & doesn't appear to be able to obtain a freaking service manual), I get more & more frustrated & angry about this. The Internet has given we consumers a very powerful voice & I certainly intend to use mine, unless Insignia suddenly decides to step up to the plate & sort this mess out.

Sorry - that should have said "complete disregard", not lack of.
I don't type very well whan I'm angry...

Well, add me to the list. Just 10 minutes ago mine went off. I had to unplug / plug it back in. The blue light comes on, 3 clicks, no picture and no way to turn back off (to red light) without unplugging it again.
This company better come through for us.

I just called Best Buy. Their first question was "Did Best Buy install this TV in the last 30 days", I said NO, and she transferred me to Insignia Rep. He said, "its out of warranty, take it to a local TV repair shop or Geek squad and see what they can do for you".

You can try taking it to a local repair shop but unless they are "Authorized Insignia Technicians" they won't have the service manuals, so fixing it is going to be guess work unless they've seen the same problem before. We were quoted $500 min just to try & fix it without having the manuals. And if your Geek Squad is anything like ours, they don't deal with TVs & you'll get referred to some kind of outside contractors.
We got tired of getting the runaround from Insignia, Best Buy AND the Geek Squad people & decided to fix it ourselves. Successfully. The problem turned out to be a capacitor that cost $1.38 + shipping to replace. Email me if you would like the details...
